I have almost a quarter of a million miles on mine, ALL using 20W50 SWEPCO dino oil, and the bearings were pulled at 200,000 miles and were still within spec. -The turbo is still in beautiful shape also, which tells me one thing:
...is a completely unqualified statement.
GOOD dino oil changed frequently (mine has been every 3000 miles) can work beautifully.
-And I'm not a dino-oil-snob... my OTHER car has run on synthetic since 5,000 miles and now has over 150,000 on it.

Use only synthetic motor oil. Only synthetics can take the abuse these cars dish out.

Oil is good I 20w50 Valvoline VR1 Dino oil. I have for 10 years. The car only over heats due to cooling issues not oil weight.

If it's hot where you are don't even think of using anything with a lower Visc than the 20w/50. We use a 25w/60 on the track.

Once the engine heats up, isn't the only number that matters is the high number? In this case 50. My understanding is that the first number is at startup and should be as low as possible. Therefore, 5W-50 is a better choice than 20W-50 because it offers the same high temperature capabilities plus better lubrication at low temperatures.
Do I understand this correctly?

Given that synthetic oil did not exist when these cars were made, I think it's a little over the top to say that our cars can't handle dino.

Also, the temp will rise higher with the A/C on.
Just pay careful attention to this temp. issue.
Get a bottle of STP oil treatment, or similar product that is primarily made up of ZDDP.(there are plenty of other brands avaialable...they all do the same.) Your oil needs it. Add it to your car. If you do this, you can use pretty much any reputable oil.

20w50 is fine. Go on ebay and buy yourself a Stant pressure tester.
