Default Wanted: Speedometer faceplate

I damaged the speedometer faceplate so I need a replacement. And by damaged, I mean bent with a deep crease.

I'll take a faceplate, a speedometer gauge or a whole gauge cluster if the price is cheap enough. It needs to be the 180 mph version and I don't care if the gauge/cluster works or not, as long as the faceplate is in good shape!

were you trying to remove the glass by itself? That's how people usually damage the glass here are the instructions how to remove it properly

No, I was trying to install my Rennbay odometer gear and clean everything up. I've found out that rubbing alcohol - even in very small amounts, softens the paint on the face of the gauge and makes the numbers rub off. I've also found that the little tin faceplate flies just like a Frisbee. It also bends when it makes a sudden stop against something solid.

What I'm looking for is the faceplate for item #2, or an entire #2 speedo assembly. My bezel (#5) is in ok condition, but it would be nice to get a new one one of these days.

I only laugh at how you described that. You can buy a new cluster housing on 944online, but it isn't cheap.

170 bucks.

I might have one. Let me check when I get home. I also can't recall if it's the 160 or 180 one, but I think it's the 160.

Yeah, I saw the bezel at 944online, but mine isn't in bad enough shape yet to replace. The only thing really wrong with mine is that the lens is separated from the frame, but I'll probably use a little silicone to stick it back in place. I just picked up new bulbs and some non-acetone fingernail polish remover to improve the lighting in it.

Rob, please let me know. I have a 160 out of the parts car, but I'd like to replace it with the correct one. I was hoping someone might have a cluster they used for parts laying around and I could get just the speedometer face.

What I didn't mention earlier is that not only did I ruin the number dial, but I also managed to break my new odometer gear. Learn from my mistakes - there's no such "fine tuning" with a big screwdriver and a hammer. At least I was able to get the rest of the dash trim installed without incident. Of course, I did discover that I forgot to order the glove box door limiting straps. Ugh.

Thanks George. I contacted them, but they want $105 ($90 for the part, $15 service surcharge) for a faceplate they print and they want me to ship my speedometer to them. I'm not sure if that means the replacement faceplate will be plastic or if it'll be on metal like my other gauges.

My search continues

Got one, but the needle is a bit bent (replace it with the one you have) , it is in MPH and from an 88 NA (i believe).

If anyone wants it, i recommend replacing the trip gear thing, since it's nice and yellow and will fail soon.

I can't seem to upload pictures, but I'm giving it away.
