Default Fuzion ZRi vs Kumho Ecsta SPT tires

I'm updating my '87 951's wheels to 2000 Boxster Twists 17" wheels.

I've searched Rennlist and discovered that the Fuzion ZRi tires seem to be rated better than the Yok ES100s. How would the Fuzion ZRi's rate with the Kumho Ecsta SPT's?

This might end up like a "favorite oil" thread, but FWIW, I've been running ZRi's for about three years. I'm happy with the grip as well as the wear charachteristics. I find them a good value. I can't compare them to the others, as I haven't used the others.

If you look at the Tireracks tests, the SPT beat the Fuzion all around, plus it looks better and has a nicer tread pattern and sidewall...

I have the ZRi's and they are OK. If you are a spirited driver don't expect much mileage on them. Mine don't even have 5k and are about half gone.

Skip the yok's. They are very noisy.

I run the ZRis as well. Been on the car for over 3 years. They've been much better than the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s I had before. The 712s are junk, especially in the rain. I don't know much about the SPTs - the Ecsta MX are what I probably would have purchased if it weren't for the fact that they wear so quickly. If the SPTs are in between, as long as they can handle water, I don't know which would be better.

I'm a fan of the Fuzion's, they have a lot of the technologies from the higher end Bridgestone/Firestone tires, that have trickled down from the higher end lines to these 'low-end' tires.

I wouldn't say that they are as good as my old Potenza RE730's that I had, but for the price difference, they are worth it.

I had the ZRi's on my Audi S4 and now have the Ecsta SPT. I do like the SPT's better. On the Audi the Fuzions were noisy at 30-50mph and they wore out on one track day. I might add the S4 is brutal on the front tires on a track. Haven't had the SPTs on the track but they just feel better and are not as noisy.

The Yoki's are in the avatar picture, VERY noisy. I have been running the Khumo's and they are very grippy on the track and wear well. I will be buying them again. they look better too. one thing though, the yokis grip even better and the rears are 1.5" wider than the Khumo in the same exact size. I wish the Khumo was wider, but the noise from the Yoki's was killing me.

I currently have a set of Yok ES 100s on the car & I'm not happy with them. There have very little steering feel. Also, I never really feel 100% confident about the car's placement in a curve since I put the ES 100's on the car. It seems you have to get the car above 100 for at least a minute or so to warm the ES 100's up & then you get what I would call decent tire communication. I'm not happy with them at all. I had been using Dunlop SP 9000 tires for years. I loved them.

Both the Fuzion and Kumhos seem like quite capable tires. I don't use the car alot on the track, but occassionally will venture out on the track. I'm more of a public road "barnstormer".

Thanks for the advise. Which of these tires are more communicative?

Yokohama has discontinued the ES100 and replaced it with the S.Drive, primarily because of the fact the ES100 could just not be kept quiet unless they were rotated every 3k. The S.Drive so far is much better in staying quiet.

The Fuzion tires do borrow some of the compounding technology used in Bridgestone's higher end tires. Overall they have proven very competent performers, especially for the money. The we traction of these is the best of the group by far.

The Kumho Supra 712 was replaced by the SPT, again primarily for noise. They are one of our top sellers and seem to do pretty well with whatever they are put on. I don't recommend them for racing or heavy RWD horsepower, but they look good, wear well, and are CHEAP.

Hope this helps.

How do these all compare with the Kumho Ecsta MX tires? I've been running those for 2 or 3 sets now and they seem to do pretty well in wet and dry. Only problem is wear, they only last about 10-15k miles on the rear, but I guess that's par for the course.

kevin, I am curious why your going with 17" wheels. Typically you want either the 16 or 18" to not increase the performance lag from going with a larger diameter wheel/tire.

I went from RE730's to Fuzions also. I figure they can both grip better than I can drive. Fuzions seem to perform just as well, and are not as loud as the RE730's. Of course, a fighter jet isn't as loud as RE730's , so it's all relative...

Renvagn,

I found a set of 17s that are really inexpensive. So, I thought I would go with them. I am concerned about the performance loss. With the 18s are you able to run tires that make the diameter of the wheel more like the stock 16' situation?
