GT Racing fiberglass or carbon fibre hood
Who's got one? Is it fiberglass or carbon fibre? How is the fit and finish?
According to the GT Racing catalog, the fg is 16 lbs, cf is 14 lbs...compares to 79 lbs for stock hood. That's a huge weight savings.
If anyone has a photo of one installed, please post. My car is black, and if I went for cf I could offset some of the added cost by not painting it.
Do they include holes for the windshield washer nozzles? Does the stock hood latch bolt on?
I'm also interested in hearing about and seeing photos of the GT Racing rear bumper. Does it stick out roughly the same amount at the euro bumper? It's only 4 lbs!
Thanks.

While I don't have one, what I have heard is:
1) GT Racing 'fudges' their weight #'s a little (on both ends). The stock one weighs less than 79lbs, and neither the CF or FG ones weigh as little as 14 or 16lbs.
2) Fit & finish is "100/100", i.e., it only looks 'good' from 100' for more at 100mph or more. If this is a street car, expect to put some effort into this.
3) They're weak. Adequate for a race car, but if you'll need hood pins, and will get some flexing at speed.
That said... if I had the $$, I'd have one of the CF ones on my car.

I have the CF one. don't waste your money. get the fiberglass one. The carbon one is really fiberglass with a thin carbon fiber overlay. Stock hardware bolts up fine. Had to drill holes in hinges to get to fit front to rear properly. no big deal though. side to side was great. stock hood does not weigh 79lbs. ill weigh them both for you soon to confirm-stock vs CF GT.

just FYI, I highly doubt the claims of the stock hood being 79lbs. Not sure if anyone here weighed theirs but I had mine off last summer to strip and redo the padding on the bottom side. I managed to get it off with the help of my GF. During the process of cleaning the underside, I apparently said something wrong so she stormed out of the garage, lol. I was left to put the hood back on by myself. As awkward as it is to handle, I think if it really were 79lbs there would be no way I could have got it back on myself without damaging something. It felt like 60lbs at the most. I vaguely recall posts were made about this before also.

How much is the CF one from GT racing?
95ONE - could you post a few photos of your hood - closed, open, hinge area, latch area?
Thanks.

nine-44 has a carbon fiber hood from TRG, pretty nice fit. IIRC it was $900ish, not sure on weight.
I never weighed my gt-racing rear bumper, quite a bit shorter than stock, prob close to the euro bumper. I prefer it that way - here are some pics.

How was the fit/finish? Did you have to make corrections?

Its spaced out with washers to give it the correct factory "line spacing", other than that didnt require much if any work.
Thanks man, yeah its a nice piece except when you tap it with your hand and realize its about 4cm thick

Ian, I have my old hood resting up against the wall here... you can lift it yourself if you don't believe how much they weigh.
I really like the look of that rear bumper on Sam's car - I think I'm going to order one of those suckers. Good deal for $200. I'll wait until I decide on the hood - looking forward to seeing 95ONE's pics!
