Recommeded 951 Technician in Metro Detroit???
I'm looking for a good 951 mechanic in Metro Detroit - I use Motorwerks in Commerce for my other cars, but they're not Porsche / turbo specialists.... Please respond if you have any suggestions!
Thank you.
Thank you.

I have used Munks in Waterford for major services. They are very nice guys and will let you hang out and help the techs so you get hands on and also lower the labor rate if the time to complete the job is reduced.

Thanks or the recommendation - Munks is only 10 minutes from my house...
I had a couple of things done to one of my old Audis there a number of years ago & I don't recall what pissed me off with them, but I never went back.... Maybe I should stop over there with the car & give them another shot.
Do they have someone there that specializes on the 944/951?
Anybody have alternatives?

I don't know if they have one person for water cooled porsches. Larry was the tech that did some of the work on my car, and Chris also worked on it a bit(I think he is one of the higher ups there).
When I picked it up the first time, it was vibrating badly at approx 3000 rpms and I took it right back. It ended up the balance shaft was not aligned correctly. Instead of giving me the POS audi they used for a loaner car, Chris gave the keys to his 911 for the night. Bear in mind my house is 70+ miles from the shop. I thought that was pretty cool. To bad it was a blinding rainstorm that night.

It's a passion, I love these cars and even better I love seeing happy customers enjoying thiers. I do everything myself except for critical welding and machine work which I outsource to those experts.
I'm not too far from Waterford but I might be in Grand Rapids this weekend to install a new suspension on an '86 951(coil-overs, shocks, t bars, bushings, etc.) that should be fun.

recent service experience
I am in the middle of a service "situation" and can tell you about my experiences re; my 951 these last few months. P.M. me if you want to discuss, no complaining, just the facts. By the way, I live in Waterford.

There always seemed to be a few shops that I would repeatedly hear customers mention previous bad experiences with. Sadly it's a bitter-sweet type deal for me. The lack of decent service at some of the less reputable shops is what brought me loyal customers, however it really is terrible that people would have to deal with some clown shop in the first place, usually wasting hard earned money in the process when they have to pay someone else to do the job right.
Good or bad I would like to hear about the other shops around the area.
