I've painted cars for years and I can see how this does work. It would work especially well using a high quality paint if it were a solid color. The rustoleum stuff doesn't hold out it's gloss near as long as the automotive paints do. But it does work for a better than Maaco job for sure.

When I do a real high dollar piece (or did) I would use extra material so it could be buffed for years. Honestly it didn't matter how the finished spray looked (peeled,dry or other) b/c in the end it is sanded down and buffed anyway.

Not my first choice but it would work quite well for a track type car.

I let it dry overnight and put a fan in the garage to help circulate air.

Blown, I do intend to put some clear coat on it when the time comes but like I said, its a once a week driven car. I'm probably not going to track it and just for riding down the road, any little imperfections aren't going to be too noticeable. Thanks for the advice.

So are you supposed to sand it down afterwards?

Wet sand after every coat with sandpaper that gradually gets finer after each one and then the last coat gets done with like 1000 grit and then use turtle wax polishing compound to get a mirror finish.

Thanks John. Yep I used some Bondo glazing putty to smooth out what that guy did to it so it's not 100% percent but you'd never notice if you weren't looking.

After you wetsand, do you polish it out (with compound or other polish) then put on second coat? or you leave it hazy after wetsand and reapply another coat of paint?

Nope, you don't use polish until the very end. Leave it hazy then paint another coat.

Is there a specific Rustoleum product you can point to (maybe a link). The Rustoleum web site isn't very helpful with any of the actual product names from the Moparts thread.

Thats the product I used. It's the same as Tremclad in Canada.
