Default Finished my car...for now..

I installed my LR 340whp kit with the 4" exhaust last week at work. So yesterday before Hot Import nights, Jon (our tuner) and I went for a ride to street tune the car because we had a customer car on the dyno. After about an hour of tuning we decided that what we had would work until monday when we could actually get it on the dyno and get everything perfected.

We had boost set to around 17psi running a little bit rich. While driving back to the shop I was approached by a silver c5 z06 with exhaust. He sat there and cruised next to me for about a mile with the occasional rev and look over. I had my windows down and was demonstrating some pretty good self control untill he rolled down his window and said "you wanna run from a 40 roll?". Now keep in mind that the toll road here in austin is usually pretty empty. So behind me about a 1/4 mile back was a honda I think, and it was clear ahead so i said "ok!" we dropped gears down to 40mph. He gave 3 honks and we took off, he immediately pulled about a half car on me, then I started to reel him in, within a couple of seconds I had pulled 2-3 cars on him. I didn't stop pulling on him so I decided to let off the gas. He was cool about it and gave, me a thumbs up and exited the highway. Since I am running a Greddy Type RS blow off valve that is non recirculating, I get a little rich in between shifts and with the 4" exhaust it makes back fires sound like a cannon so Im pretty sure he saw some flames.

So needless to say I am very excited about the new setup and I cant wait to get the final tune done tomorrow!

I've thought this same thing for a while now. You see everyone putting blow off valves vice recirc valves...whats the advantage?

no advantage, nice sound. I wouldn't say a BOV is ricer you would have one if you had a MAP or blow through MAF on your car because you wouldn't need to recirc the air.
I hope the street racing ***** on here don't read this

some might think it's silly, but now that I have the MAF and a piggy back, it doesn't matter if I run a BOV or a DV. If the car still had the AFM and stock turbo then I would stick with the DV. I just like the fact that I can adjust it and stiffen it to eliminate any chance of it fluttering.

Sounds like your car is pretty friggin' awesome. Whatever you choose, I gotta see that thing next time I'm down south!

Good run! Brake-Boost next time, and he won't pull you in the beginning.

I've always loved hearing the sound of a blow-off valve, and it's always fun seeing people's heads turn as if they'd just been slapped!

Even if you recirculate an aftermarket BOV/BPV, chances are it'll be louder than stock.

Has NOBODY here replaced their BPV?

I've got a Forge unit that I was quite loud... Now that it is re-circulated its much more modest, still quite noticeable though.

my billet recirc valve is loud as hell going to the vitesse turbo inlet tube. Not as loud as the HKS huge adjustable BOV i had for a couple days but my car also doesnt go way rich even w/ the MAF anymore either.

Post your dyno results, I'd like to see what you got at 17. The car at RUF, with the same setup put down 349/345 at 18. Hopefully, you'll end up around 318-328; I'm at 322/325 respectfully but with a Kokeln V turbo. The track car, with a MAF III, same turbo at 17, put down 351/347.

That is exactly what I want, too! I'll finish up some mods here soon and will be home in about 5 months (getting out of the military) so I need a dyno to tune!
