Help! Grinding noise @2300-3000 rpm
At approx 2300 to 3200 RPM's my car makes a grinding sound. Not sure if this is enough explanation. I can tell you that it is not an internal engine sound, like a crank or lifter.. It is coming from something on the outside of the engine. I have sort of decided that it is the turbo making this grinding noise. Is this normal?
As soon as I rev past 3200 or drop off the gas, the noise kind of "puffs" out. Sorry for the lack of technical terms here. It only does this when it is in this RPM range. It is quite loud!
Next Q:
What can I install or upgrade/change in order to get the "blow off" sound that comes from a lot of modified turbocharged cars.
I know that what I need is a blow off valve or something similar, but what I'm really asking is how do I install one? I know that the 951 has a Bypass Valve, so really what I want to know here is what do you do to these to easily achieve that sound.
I have always loved the blow-off sound and was wondering how easy it was to obtain.
Thanks,
-Jordan

It recirculates because of the AFM meter. If you use a blow off valve instead of recircultion valve, It will dump fuel in the cylinders. Because if you dump the air the AFM has already "read" out of the blow off valve to atmosphere, it thinks there is more air in the motor than there is. Car will stumble.
That said, people do it anyway.

the effects are listed you just run rich for a second on decel and it sometimes stumbles, ive done it on other cars and had no effect that was noticable. However you can buy hybrid valves that dump half out and half in the motor and you usually can tell no difference and get a little sound out of it.
not sure on your noise issue tho
