If your car still has the studs coming through that rear cubby whole then I believe they are attached to a thick anchor plate on the inside, they aren't just flimsy studs coming out.

How about the rear bumper shock point. I know you have FG rearbumper, but mouting something to shock area or the bumper mount may be strong enough. Maybe use a strap instead of a hook.

I've seen a pretty snazzy spring loaded on that 911 guys use on (through) fiberglass bumpers... maybe you could get one to fit. I think I saw them advertised in Pano or the the Club Racing newsletter.

I think it's Rennline, maybe Rennsport?? that carries the full load of various how hook set ups. I will be picking up one of the front screw in, folding ones soon. I know it's Renn something..... lol. Will check links when I get home.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Much appreciated.

I hear what you're saying, but if a little forethought can minimize damage, then I am all for it.

No studs, just holes with rubber plugs in them. No anchor plate either, just sheetmetal.

I thought of making an "L" type bracket to act as a spacer between the bumper and the frame, sticking straight out between the bumper and valence. I have washers acting as spacers there now so that would work...although it would require work and right now my "to do" list is pretty long. So this will have to do for now:

Here is a picture from inside the rear cubby with the factory anchor plate still in place, on the other side is the studs that the tie downs were mounted to from the factory. I was simply pointing out that if you still have this plate in place then there is a good size plate on the opposite side and not just the thin sheet metal of the body there.

That's pretty slick.... and definitely not on my car. That would have been handy. Thanks for the pic!

Nothing is easy. Just got my rear tow hooks and was ready to install them. Found the area and much to my surprise there are plugs there, no bolts or backing plate. What do I have to do to mount them?

Sounds like mine. I just used some nuts & bolts and big-*** fender washers.

Did you fabricate a plate for the other side? is it strong enough the way you did it?

No. I hope so.

The washers I used were pretty darn big, at least as big as that factory backing plate thingy shown above. Should be fine.

Yep, if you do not have the plate on the inside from the factory, washers and bolts will work just fine.

Another tid bit about our (Rennbay) rear tow hooks. They are 1/4" steel, zinc plated then powder coated red. The zinc plating means that if you scratch the powder coating they are not going to rust on you.
