Default balance shaft alignment question

Could someone please answer this question. Upon aligning the lower balance shaft, do you align the rectangular shaped opening with the "O" visible through it with the notch on the back belt cover or the notch on the back side of the shaft itself? Thanks!!

Lower balance shaft sprocket should have the O in the rectangular window and the notch should be pointing to the tab on the cover.

Thanks! Except the notch on the belt cover by the top shaft looks more like 12 o clock? Clarks manual states that it's closer to 1 o clock. I'm a little confused

The notch on mine is @ 12:00 . I think that diagram needs to be rotated slightly counter clockwise.

Remember, the O stands for Ober; the U for Unter.

Try google translate if you need to know what they mean.
