Also if we find out that they are the same, it may help Russell to reduce his cost on the Scivision and get more customers.

^ That page translated to english. Cheaply. And badly. But you get the gyst of it.

In the period of 1980 to approx.. 1990 was equipped the systems for the motor control of the company Bosch (Motronic) with fold-steered sensors for vice identification. These amount of air measurers supplied a tension referred for current volume current to the controller, in order to support the computation of the necessary injection amount and the optimal firing angle. These sensors worked very precisely. They have however the disadvantage to form and lead thus to a pressure loss within the sucking in range by the flap in the air flow a resistance.

In later Motronic systems these sensors were replaced by air mass sensors, which oppose a slighter resistance to the air flow and in addition a clearly higher responsing mode have. For the nachruestung of existing systems - in particular in the engine haven - SciVision developed a sensor, which is completely compatible on the more modern MAF technology be based and with the existing mechanical amount of air sensors.

With this concept the sensor can be adapted to each Motronic which is based on a LMM. So far the air flow MAF to the appropriate vehicles of the manufacturer Porsche were adapted. The following versions air flow of the MAF are available:

Porsche 944 and 924 S
(LMM 0.280.202.064)
Price: 754€

Porsche 944 S and 944 S2
(LMM 0.280.203.029)
Price: 812€

Porsche 944 turbo
(LMM 0.280.203.026)
Price: 812€

Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2
(LMM 0.280.203.023)
Price: 920€

Porsche 911 Carrera 3,6 (964)
(LMM 0.280.203.023)
Price: 920€

Further systems are in preparation. On request the adjustment can be made to other motor vehicle types

Hey Mike,

Give me a call when you can please, 877-502-2756. I want to get one of these units on my car and see if it runs the same. If so, the price on the Scivision kits can come down. I have to pay 780.00USD for the whole kits, part of that is 300 bucks for the MAF unit itself. Scivision told me I can buy the translator computers alone if I can source the MAF here, I REALLY want to source the unit here. It makes getting it easier, less duties, and the Scivision kits can come down a couple hundred bucks. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Regards,
Russell

Wow that is great news Russell. For the last week I've been really thinking about getting a kit in the next month. I guess I will just sit back and watch what happens as I'd love to save some cash right now.

Mike, I cannot find 0280 217 531 (80mm) referenced to a volvo. I can only find 531 linked to alfas...
156 2.5L V6
166 2.5+3.0l V6
GTV 3.0 V6
Lancia Kappa SW 3.0 V6

Brand numbers
ALFA ROMEO 46444287
FIAT 46444287
FIAT 60815616
FIAT 60816293
LANCIA 46444287

Found on ecat-online.bosch.de

I know a US company that sells these, I'll get the cost tomorrow.

where did you get this information from?

the info below came from the scivision website....and i don't see a serial number that ends in 531.

Those are Scivision part numbers, the same MAF unit is used on all kits you list, the difference is the translator computer. Still waiting for somebody (Mike) to give me the info on the one found locally so I can test it...

I know there are a few that have the same measurments length, diam, etc on these things. Is there a specific resistance value on the MAF itself that you are trying to match? Just trying to understand the specifics that make the particular one that you use Russell, usable.

Indeed, the sensor itself has a set calibration, but that calibration is effected by the housing as well. In other words, you could take the sensor out of the 531 unit and stick it in another pipe and it will behave differently. It's just the nature of the beast. Measuring resistence of the sensor will not tell you anything, and you may indeed damage it by trying to do so. Hot Film MAF units are very sensitive, and easily damaged. To answer your question, if I can get a MAF/housing combination that is 'close enough' I can map out the differences in the chips. I found the unit Mike was speaking of, and on my way to get it now. I will install it on my 3.2L 911 and do some driving/logging to see if the behavior is indeed the same. I'll probably dyno it too before I call it done.

More to follow...

Russell

Hey Russell, I'll give you a call later on today

Keith, the volvo MAF doesn't end in 531 but according to Bosch, there are only 5 different calibrations (versions) of the HFM5. The scivision kit uses version 3 (640 kg/h), which is the same version sensor as the volvo 2.4L turbo, but in a different plastic housing to mate up with the volvo airbox.

Here is a pic of the actual 640kg/h hfm that is shared between the afla and the volvo:

What I believe russell needs is the hfm in this housing (part # 531) that is only available on Alfas and some fiats:

The volvo housing looks like this , note the different housing (but same sensor) The different length of it may effect the sensor reading, not to sure on that:

My grandfather is in croatia right now and I had him order me a MAF from the Alfa, I'll give that to russell and see if its the same. If I didn't have the alfa maf I'd buy the volvo MAF and give it to russell to see if it works the same. I also found a few wholesalers of the #531 MAF , but they require you to order at least 60..

Raven - I got the 531 part number from the scivision instruction PDF and from people that own the scivision maf. I got the rest of the information from the internet (some of which I posted on this thread)

Nope, neither the 74-10052 ('04 M3) nor 74-10090 (Volvo XC90) will work. The sensor is the same, but the housing is an inch smaller. The search continues.... While at AutoZone, they let me peruse the MAF shelf, I opened every box, I found several with the same internal sensor, none with the same housing diameter. Found some with the same housing diameter, but different sensor. We're not the first to go looking for a comparable replacement. The ultimate path I believe is going to be buying them in bulk abroad, I'm still looking into that, but that takes a good sized pile of cash...

I'll keep looking...

Russell

Damn .. at least the sensor was the same, so all my research doesn't seem that wasted..

Want me to talk to one of those wholesale importers and see if they can send me 1 or 2 to make sure they work?
