What is the difference between early and late (non M030) wheel bearings? Can I use an '86 hub/bearing assembly with an '87 spindle?

They are different PN's, so you probably can't interchange them.
The -86's didn't have provisions for ABS, so that's one obvious difference. My guess is that spindle and hub dimensions are also different due to the different offsets, although I am not sure. They use different bearings as well.
Not something I would take a chance on, IMO.
