Those do look nice!
One of the local drifters here put some 18x12" rims on his RX7. Then he wrapped them in like 245 rubber. He was bragging about how he fit 12's on his RX7.
So as best i can tell, the point of putting really wide rims with really stretched tires is:
-Brag about width of tire without having to pay for accompanying width of rubber
-Ruins suspension geometry
-Adds weight
-Looks retarded
