so i have a 87 turbo Ocean blue... 100 % stock. but the block is bad b/c the mounts for the a/c alternator bracket are broken off the block. The dash is cracked and the exhaust has more holes than swiss cheese... the rear carpet has been cut the window switch is broken the console hinge is broken. not on koni's...
i am at the point that it is un fixable...
i love it to death but it isnt reliable.
i am thinking of parting it out but how much do you think i can get out of the car?
i am either looking for a good short block to swap internals and full exhaust headers back. or a new car ( 951 ) for 12k...
let me know you opinion. b/c i cant make my mind up
Thanks Dallas

dhall - What you've mentioned doesn't sound that bad. Just depends on how much time/effort you wanna put into it. Parting it would CERTAINLY be more time/effort than either fixing and keeping it or just selling it as is.
vwvortex - that's one gorgeous 951 car; especially the script sport seats

If it were me...
1. Find a good motor to just completely swap. It'll be much easier than rebuilding one block with the used parts out of your current one, not to mention that it won't have the issues with different wear patterns on the parts between the two engines.
2. carpet dash mat
3. get a new black hatch carpet piece from someone parting their car.
4. get some touch-up paint for the front bumper and side. Or just have the bumper and header panel repainted completely.

it has been wrecked before. the header pannel is bent and the frame has a weld 1" long on passenger side. the driver side shock tower is bent also. and it is leaking oil...
i think i am gonna keep it and just buy a newer car and put extra money in this... but still need to find a new block.

The problem is that you can't really get away with just swapping all the parts into a new block, at least if you want it to last for a long period of time. The parts of an engine all wear together, so the only way you could really get away with sticking the pistons/crank/whatnot into a new block would be to have them checked out by a machine shop to fix any possible marks, you'd probably want the cylinders honed, and then install the stuff with all new bearings and new piston rings. Hence why I was saying it'd probably be easier (and faster) to simply find a donor engine and swap that in.
With the shock tower being bent and the other problems though, I think you may be getting towards the parting-out end of the spectrum. I suppose if you really liked the car when you have the motor out you could get the shock tower and frame fixed and the front end stuff repainted, but I know nothing about repairing these things after an accident so I can't say if that would work at all.
