Not possible.
It just isn't.
Really.
Pull the engine and do it right.

Removing rods is a delicate matter. A little knick in the crank from a rod stud bumping the crank IS A BIG DEAL.

Delicate and precise handling is key whether in or out of car. If you rush it on an engine stand you will knick the crank....... I have to believe the likelihood of "dinging" the crank increases greatly by doing the job with engine in the car, and twofold when performed by a lesser experienced person.

be aware of risks - just because you manage to jam them in is not an indication of success. I would not consider doing this job in the car and I am fairly seasoned. In a pinch for a race event or something of the sort you do what you have to, but to plan to do the job in the car is using poor judgment IMO

This guy said it's possible so I'm just quoting him:

I can see how it can be done on a 3.0 block - but it is still a stuipd way to do it. If nothing else you are inviting a piston pin clip failure.

It still won't work on a 2.5 block....
