has anyone ever pulled a rod from the oil pan side without having to remove the piston?
yeah you bet I am trying to avoid pulling EVERYTHING to get this rogue rod out of my engine

nothing nice about finding a shredded bearing in my oil pan with only one hour on a newly rebuilt engine...yep i did it myself

I know my wording on this really sucked sorry
but i want to pull the rod out by pulling the c clip and pin holding the rod on the piston. Can i do this in anyway without pulling the piston>
If i need to pull the piston I have to remove the head...I was hoping the shortcut would work. not sure if the pin will clear eother side with the piston still in the cylinder

oh I do plan to remove the crank and then try to remove the rod caps and then rods...i am hoping to leave the pistons in the cylinders
a mechanic buddy told me to try but I am skeptical
it would just save me 4-6 hours on the bench not having to remover the fuel injectors, cam. head,,, but i have done it WAY too many times already so doing it again shouldn't be a big deal

that's what I thought....i should remove everything anyways to inspect the cylinders....just in case i screwed that up when I spun #1
any ideas why number one bearing would blow on me?

To remove the connecting rod from the piston you must pull the piston pin all the way out the side of the piston, meaning you'd have to go through the cylinder wall because you can't lower the piston enough (base of the cylinder is too narrow). I can't see that happening on a 968 motor either, although I've never had my hands on one.
