Default Crossover pipe saved me

I was taking out the temp. starter on my 951 to put in the new one and I did quite possibly the most retarded thing ever.

I forgot to disconnect the battery

Needless to say when I put a wrench to the starter the car rolled forwards off of the front jackstands and onto the the ramp I put under the x-member for extra safety. unfourtantly the car rolled forward enough so instead of landing on the x-over it landed on my cross over pipe.

I now have an exhaust leak that I'm pretty sure is coming from the the x-over but it could be from the exhaust manifolds. I'm going to give it a better look tommorow. I had zero exhaust leaks before, but it a small price compared to what could have happened.

Does anyone have a x-over pipe for sale cheap?

thanks
mike

Thats scary! Glad to hear you're not flat but you have terrible luck with that 951.

Now now, there are better ways to learn how to arc weld. But seriously, that sounds pretty scary.

Good thing you decided to put that ramp under there. It saved you from injury or death.

Sorry, I don't have a spare crossover pipe.

Thank god you are alive -- you dodged a bullet. I'm happy for you and your family.

I never keep a car in gear when working on it or even when its parked -- I guess against conventional wisdom to the contrary.

I did this same thing.

I had the car supported by a jack and one jackstand.

If the car were to fall... would I really die?

okay, it's possible that you would survive, but your rockettes would be squished, so I think death would be better.

I did this once, but it was an automatic, and in park. Also, the starter was already out, and in my hands. It hit the chassis and sparking like a ****, and started spinning. I panicked, shut my eyes and tried to jiggle the starter away from conductive materials, but by the time I got it away, the starter was scalding hot and burned my thumb.

I guess there's a reason Clark copy-pasted that same first step onto each of his write-ups.

There should be rubber boots over those damn starter terminals!
