Default Fifthgear Motorsports saved my butt!!!

For any of you rennlisters in the DFW area...these guys are awesome...Rick has been working on 944's since the 70's i think. They know their stuff, match prices with online parts, and get things done fast. I came to them with only a few days left before the season opening for NASA in houston and they've been all over it. I've found it a rare occurance to run across a shop with this much 944 experience.

oh and along the same lines...beware of Don Istook...3 years ago when i first got into this car he took me for a ride with cost of repairs and did half *** work...later i found out that he's opened and closed shop a few times always leaving quite a few burned customers. good thing is when they repo'd his last shop lots of my friends got some great tools at the right price.

Just wanted to give some feedback since these guys have been tackling everything i threw at them...

Personally I deal with Zims and Mayo Performance. Where are they located? I might check them out. There is also a small place by I-20 and 360. The guy there is probably the most knowledgable guy on Porsche's I have ever met and does top notch work.

Porsche's since the 70's...you know what i meant...

Zims and Mayo are great shops as well...Tom over at Mayo will bend over backward for you...but he's actually the one who recommended Fifthgear for all the 951 specific things i wanted to do. Mayo is basically a 911 house...and i consider Zims a great parts place but didn't even realize they did race car work...i thought they did mostly stock maintenence...but could be wrong...good guys as well.

fifthgear is in Lewisville which is a 45 min drive for me...but worth it.

Everytime I visit Mayo they always have a 944/951/928 or other there, I've never had them do work, but I ask them tech stuff all the time and they always help. Does this new place have a website? Where do you live? I'm in Arlington at 287 and 20.

http://fifthgear.biz/

I live in downtown Fort Worth...

yea, mayo works on my 944 turbo as well...but even they'll tell you that for track setup or 951 specific issues...fifthgear is a great resource. You've probably been dealing with Tom...he's awesome...even came out to work on my car...garage visit...now how often to you hear about that.

Interesting..
Istook sold me a motor a few years back that I returned because of quality issues. At the time Istook had this stellar rep. He knew that and proceeded to nickel and dime me to death needles to say it was ugly.

No matter who you deal with these day's you need to keep your wit's about you and not accept crap from anyone.
