Default How often do you change wheel studs

Ok...I was looking at replacing the wheel studs and doing bearings and such but the studs are going to be 160 bucks or so...i know you have to spend some money to keep these cars on the track...but i'm questioning replacing all the studs for precautionary reasons...or just buying a few in case of a cracked one...figured the chances of cracking all five at once are rare...advice...i'm expecting a lashing from the safety guys...but if you really think it's a must do every few years...i need to hear it...if not how ofter are you track guys changing them considering i change tires 5-8 times a weekend...5-6 weekends a year.

I am using the same steel lugs for the past 5 years. I have some spares just incase a I lose one at the track. I'd hate to go home for losing a nut after doing a tire change.

I think broken studs are pretty rare. Heard of a fellow lister shearing one off while torquing lug nuts, but he's the only one.

^^^^Drill and safety wire if you can't keep them tight. It's a nice feeling knowing they won't back out.

Mine are OEM, but I do plan on replacing them with slightly longer ones one of these days.

I run a slightly longer cv bolt with a hex head instead of the spline and used lockwashers they stay tight all the time

I don't know about the wheel studs, but you should change the air in your tires every 10,000 miles unless you are using purified air.

I can't believe you guys get 10k miles out of a set of tires! I'm jealous!

About the wheel studs - I'd keep a few spares on hand, but not change all of them. I've seen several wheels fail at the track, where the outer part breaks away from the hub, but I've never seen studs fail on the track.
