what year 944 turbo to buy
#31
Incorrect. The regular 951 had a K26 with a number 6 hotside, while the Turbo S had the K26 with a number 8 hotside. It was changed so that maximum boost would be held all the way to redline. The 26/6 cars started dropping off ~5000 RPM.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with earlier cars despite what others say. Buy the best example regardless of year. BTW, Mine also has the two piece cross over and belows in the exhaust.

Does anyone have an opinion of the '89 951? I just bought one from my friend, and he said he likes his '88 over the '89. I've got to admit, I like the lack of rear windshield wiper, but what else is different about the '89?

In 1989 the 'S' was dropped from the 944 Turbo S, and all 944 Turbos featured the 'S' package as standard. The regular 944 displacement was increased to a 2.7 L engine. This was the only year for the 2.7 L, as this year saw the introduction of the 944S2 with a 3.0 L engine displacement which saw sales through 1991. The 944S2 had the same rounded nose and valence body of the Turbo model. The S2 was also available as a cabriolet, a first for the 944 line.

However, the quote you posted left out the fact that not all 1988 Turbos were S cars. Easiest way to tell is that the non-S cars had cast 16" phone dial wheels, whereas the S cars all had forged 16" Club Sports.
However, many cars don't have original wheels so the next thing to check is the engine identification number on the right side of the engine block. If the number starts with M44/52, it's an S. If it says M44/51, it's not.

I am going to look at the Silver Rose this week. Thanks to all of you with the information input, I feel fairly dialed in about it. It does have the original cloth seats with it as well as the leather replacements that are in the car. It has different wheels but has what is thought to be the originals. Will be looking at the data tag and the m44/52 eng #. will let you know Going to print out some of your posts to have with me for reference. ------- Can I also get a specific location for the eng# on the block, like what is near it, data tag/stamp etc?

Good choice -- can't go wrong with metallic pink!
This is a good site for the data locations: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/P...Locations.html
