Good Question. I just ran into this problem (as you can see by my other post in NA).

What size would a 1984 NA 944 Require?

So he drove it to the shop sucking in dirt and debris with every intake cycle?

Some people just do things that are out of the ordinary that others would never think of!

I had a plug strip out in a VW beetle years ago and I really wasn't surprised about it since it was sooo old. I pulled to old one out and the new one would never start in the threads, so I put my finger down into the hole and could feel no threads. I guess the threads wore out after 45 years. My boss and I were able to put an insert in it. If you do ever put an insert in there, use grease on the tap so shavings do not go into the cylinder and if they do just turn the engine over without the plug and it should shoot any of the shavings out.

Oops, we didn't think about that! I think we were more concerned with the bits of aluminum thread that were already in there. But next time we'll afix a breather filter as a tiny cone air filter . Because that's way smarter than getting it towed.
