I might try doing that Darwin. I noticed on the way home today the temp getting halfway between the 1/3rd and 2/3rd marks, when at a stop light. Since it was in the 40s or so today, I think that is a little warm.
Bleed it with the front jacked up higher than the rear or parked on a hill facing upwards (probably more difficult in TX ). That'll get all the air out.

ehall- How do you know when it's done bleeding? I mean, will it be like brakes and you will see/hear the air escaping, and then when it's just liquid, close the screw?

even with the waterpump out I struggled with that goddamn snap ring. I really hope I don't have to do replace the t-stat for a good long time

If you want to replace the Tstat while the WP is in the car, get a set of 90 deg snap ring pliers.

and make sure the snap ring is oriented tactfully on the re-install to make life easier in the future.

Ugh. Wish I would have read this before hand. Seemed as if I didn't have really any air in the system. Upon loosening the screw, intant coolant shooting out everywhere and I only had a few rags.

Long story short, I had just puddled coolant on top of the BS covers, where the head meets the block and many other places I had recently cleaned! O, and forgot to mention spraying coolant ALL over my header panel AND engine bay!

A 4 hour, 130 mile drive got rid of all the leaked coolant though!

4 hours at 130mph?

oh, i read that wrong

anyway, did you take the screw completely out?? I would think it would just bubble a bit if you unscrew it a few turns when the car is warm

Nope. I barely even cracked the screw. It had very fine streams coming from multiple directions, with enough force to hit the header panel and myself (that crap is HOT). Then when I went back to tighten it, even barely touching it would cause it to shoot more out.

And no, not 4 hours at 130mph lol. I did a lot of city driving with some highway cruising, making sure my car runs superb, and she does. Rolled her over 80,000 miles!

Wow, then I'll be sure to just get mine warm enough and not try this after coming home from my 30 minute commute. It doesn't take much to get some heat built up and any air will naturally flow toward the top, so... we'll see

Yea, I did probably close to a 20-25 minute drive, then cracked her open. I don't think I really bled it though. It wasn't like what I expected. You know, when brakes are done...you can visibly see and hear the air escaping. I expected that to happen with the coolant and on mine, I didn't have that happen. Maybe it doesn't...but not sure.

ummm, water and hydraulic fluid are REALLY different! That's why I warned you guys. By composition, water has more trapped oxygen, ya knwo h2O. O is Oxygen! I can't tell you about the S2, as I don't have one, but my turbo, can have air trapped LLLOOOOONNNGGGG after I thought I got it all out. The second time, I learned my lesson.
GEt a damned STANT preasure testor. On ebay they go for about 60 bucks including shipping. Money well spent, IMHO.
