Default This car will be the end of me I tell you

Driving home from work today, I see the dreaded steam/smoke coming from my hood -- this after just having my waterpump done and a month later my cam tower gasket dumping oil on my headers and billowing smoke... so I am luckily a mile from the house and I get it home and have a look. Green coolant is spraying out around the oil filter and power steering reservoir are at. Dripping all down on the driveway and running out under the car. I can't tell exactly where it's coming from with green all over the place and even some sprayed out on the nose and pass. side headlight!

I mean I JUST had the waterpump replaced and some various coolant hoses, could it be a shoddy pump or poorly installed? I have to get some sleep so I'll clean it up and take a closer look later today or tomorrow, but holy crap i am so pissed right now, but just too tired to want to even bother with it right now -- i work nights so..

Did you have the oil cooler housing seals replaced along with the water pump?

There is a heater hose in that area that has probably split. It makes a 90 degree bend from the water pump thermostat housing to the metal heater return pipe pipe that runs above the headers to the back of the engine. It's a $4 part. If it has split due to age (mine did), you should probably take a hard look at your 10 other coolant hoses to see which other ones are waiting to fail.

- take a step back Dan

likely an old hose that got worked around a bit with WP job and finally let go. Mayb even just a loose clamp.

I had the same situation, just had my oil cooler seals done and noticed I was still losing coolant. I was ready to throw in the towel (all new hoses and everything associated), turns out the mechanic didn't tighten the hose clamp and it was leaking all over. Moral of the story, take a step back and reevaluate later.

Might be the hose next to the oil filter that goes to the heater rail by the headers...

relax, one of these days you can probably pull all your hair out but not today. More than likely it's one of the local hoses spraying green coolant in that area. Give all the hoses in the area a good sqeeze until you find the culprit.

After I replaced all of my original, still functioning coolant hoses last winter, I ended up with a slow leaker two months later. Defective hose. Don't sweat it -- it's probably something simple.

Dude, don't listen to all these guys, what do they know? I'll bet you'll fix it again and later wham bang, something will break again. Let, lart tell you the true , your car is possesed by evil spirits, the only way to stop the curse is to cut the car off.

Check the following thread

and here is my quote from the same thread

Mr. Wayne, there is no doubt in my mind that you are extremely knowledgeable about our cars and automobiles in general. I consider myself a driver and not a 951 tech. Out of all the 951’s that I have had, two of them were configured with the same setup, identical turbo, injectors, maf, wastegate, mbc and bov. I ran both at 18-19psi. The 1st one was abused on the track by the PO. I also ran the car hard and never had a single problem with it. It was sold because the body was not clean and then bought another one which is my former car, it had the same setup as the previous car, but it suffered 4 blown head gaskets. All of them in cyl # 4. At one point I decided to install a MLS gasket but ended up breaking a ring. I than bought another block, rebuild the engine and had no more blown HG. I was able to run up to 22psi without troubles.

Why? I don’t know either, but I would consider Christ White’s response the one closest to the true.

I've gotten to be quite savvy when it comes to working on these cars (with dealing with doing everything to mine!) When I get home for good in a few months I'll be more than happy to start helping you do your own work! Let me know if you are interested! (I've already helped a few listers out here in the SoCal area)
