Default advice please upgrade my 60-1hifi or GT35R

Hi Folks, my 3.0 turbo rebuild is underway after popping a head gasket some weeks back.

I am putting in new 8.0:1 pistons, 951 rods, the engine has been honed 104.5mm, new/reconditioned just about everything inside is being done

I was previously running a TO4B 60-1 hifi #8 stage 5 wheel bought from Innovative Turbo, I want to go up to a #10 with the stage 5 as my goals are now 500FWHP everyday and nudge 600 when I feel the need.

Problem, Innovative have gone out of business, cant get a replacement #10, dont know who made the original #8 for Innovative, if I buy a #10 from another source the shroud will not match my turbine wheel profile (I think). That would mean a new turbine wheel matched to the new hot-side and lots of hassle. Unless someone knows who has taken over from Innovative?

Other option sell my turbo, its only done a few thous Kms and buy a GT35R. From what I have seen the compressor maps are not hugely different between the 60-1hifi and the GT35R, so other than quicker spool I may not gain that much (again my thoughts)

I would prefer to keep the 60-1 its a great turbo and sounds amazing.

Any advice, am I thinking straight?

no personal experience building turbos but I think that the Turbonetics #10 replica housing will work

(they make one machined for a stage V wheel if that's what you're worried about)

thanks I am aware that is made & that the option will work well, the issue is the shroud clearances inside the #10 the tolerance are about 0.40 so using a different manufacturers #10 casting than Innovative used will not fit.

well gt30 and gt 32 are better suited to your set up but you will always be tempted by the better price of the GT35 it's cheaper as it has a handfull of diesel oem applications were as gt 30 and 32 is almost just after market sales .
I realy think you should bite the bullet and convert to the garret rear housing . and for gt35 i would not drop the compression so far you may feel it when off boost .
also the 35 turbine is probably too big it's as big as the stage 5 thing you have now but a lighter and later in aero terms but not different enough.
you could have the housing you have power ported wich may bump it up to a 9 or 10 .

Adam, looking at the compressor maps for the 30 or 32 they are well short of 600hp, the 35 only just gets there. I wouldn't swap my 60-1 for a GT30 or 32 as its got less hp potential looking at the maps.

I think your right the Garrett hotside is a better option for sure from what I have read its far better than the KKK copies, I guess I could add that to the existing 60-1 as an option over a #10, still have to put a new turbine/shaft in.

I thought the compression had to drop to at least 8.0:1 to be able to run my planned 17 - 23psi safely, I was taking the conservative option with the 8.0:1, although I can have my pistons in any compression I like as they are being made to suit.
What do you think is a street compression ratio, that I can still push up to 600hp safely, bearing in mind that a full compression point only add a few % power.

What about turning and stopping those 600chickens Mike? Stock stuff is ok up to a point, but with that sort of power you will be like a big old power boat on full throttle with it's nose in the air let alone the handling and stopping stuff.
