Brian - nothing happened when I pinched the line, no change - but now I think I know why that is.

To date here is what I replaced:
-3 bar regulator
-swapped in a spare damper (vac tested OK)
-new jumper line from damper to rail
-fuel pump
-fuel filter
-had pressure line to rail redone by earl's in indy
-removed rail, cleaned out with compressed air

On a slim chance I threw on a different fuel pressure gauge and fired the car last night - pressure came right up. WTF...so I guess the gauge went bad - it wasnt but a few months old...now Im hoping that whatever I replaced while the gauge was bad fixed the main problem of the car cutting out/going lean under throttle.

Once the roads are clear Ill take it out and see how it runs.

Thanks-

You can use the bad guage to measure your blood pressure!

only thing that was weird was that when it showed low pressure initially, the car would sputter when boost came on and go way lean. We bumped the FP up and it ran fine but then FP went back down on its own. Replaced pump- still low on gauge, replace everything else still low- then replace gauge and its normal? WTF?

Yeah, very wierd - I didnt think to check the gauge as it was working for Dan and the car wasnt running correctly under boost so it made sense. I guess while Im waiting for the roads to clear Ill pressure test the intake system and check all connections - then test drive as soon as I can. -fingers crossed-

Gauge mounted to fuel rail = bad gauge (eventually).
Running problem may have been due to the wrong fuel pressure setting cause by adjusting to match a bad gauge!

Yeah, thats why It was a remote gauge with a line to the rail...prob had less than 150 miles on it...I guess wierder things have happened though.

Im going to try and take it out tomorrow roads willing., Ill update then.

Update: Car runs great now, Im guessing it was the regulator that failed (+ the gauge obviously) as it now runs completely different from when I picked it up from Dan. Set at ~14-15psi - boost comes on hard and it breaks loose in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd which is all I could try around where I live.

Going to take it out to the highway tomorrow with the laptop hooked up and do some runs to check the AFR's and get it in 4th/5th.
