Fabricating engine mounts
I knew the engine mounts were in question. So as I am tearing the car apart for turbo/maf (among other) upgrades I removed mount to discover it is..... junk.
After considering current offerings I decided to Fabricate my own "super-mount" solid type mounts with an isolator.
No doubt will have more vibration than stock, but I expect much less than solid.
These are not finished as I will add thick (1/8" +) washer above and below the isolator. Of course will blast, prime and paint to complete
Weight should be less than stock, and far stronger.

Interesting. I would be concerned with stress points that could unexpectedly fail with a homeade part but I'm no engineer. I always admire people who can fabricate their own stuff that actually works.

I desidned mine a number of years ago.(track only car) I have not had any adverse effects. I wil try and get a picture up. quite basic, I dropped the the engine 5mm while I was at it. Vibrations are up somewhat but on a track car..... who cares its part of the persona.
The only force moments on the mounts should be tensile. Pulling vertically on one side and compressing on the other.

considered welding a plate inside...... though the pics are decieving - this is heavy wall square tubining 1/8" thick steel.
I also have square tube that will fit inside this, thought about fitting it inside and welding in place for double wall - but hesitant to make it too heavy.

If you want to make those mounts even stronger you can add an anti crush sleeve around the bolt and cap the ends with 1/8" plate. If you decide to cap the ends, you will need to weld nuts into the mount first. The reason for adding the anti crush sleeve is that if the tube starts to colapse, the mounting bolt tension will be lost and the nut will start to back off.

thought of the sleeve inside as well........ still thinking about it with an additional plate inside to spread the load of the sleeve, then I though I would cat a chunk of 1.5" OD heavy wall square tubing and weld a cross section in the middle - hahahah TALK ABOUT OVERKILL
it would take HUGE force to compromise this heavy wall tubing itself.......... maybe I am getting carried away....
