Default Caster block eccentric nut removal

What is the trick for getting the locking nut off the end of the accentric that fits through the front castor blocks? The eccentric is encased in the rubber bushing, so the rubber absorbs the impact of an impact wrench. Can't clamp it from the other end because the other nuts unscrews...

Any tips?

Hold the tab that sticks down with a 19mm wrench.

I tried that without luck -- can't get any leverage. I'll try again.

Put it back on the car and do it. You will get enough leverage with it being bolted to the body.

tried that too -- but the accentric is mounted in rubber that flexes/turns.

ight tom this i what you do.

1. put the tab on the vise so that nut is facing up and then use the impact gun/wrench/socket to remove the nut. <you might want to put a little piece of wood or something flat so you wont see any teeth marks on the accentric bolt from the vise when it bites >

2. upgrade to a 968 caster block. I am sure your already doing that.

If you put it in a vice as Carlos suggests, you should be able to get it off pretty easily assuming that its tightened to somewhere near the correct torque.

Did not realize you had them off the car. I have disassembled quiet a few of those by sticking the entire caster block in a vise. The rubber does absorb some of the impact but they still broke loose.

Thanks all. I put the tab in a vice and hit the nut with an impact wrench. Nothing -- didn't budge. Time for a better impact wrench I guess...

Time to put two wrenches together, cheater pipe or put some heat on the nut. Some of the early ones that I've torn apart had something like blue loctite on them and I had to get some leverage on them to break them - especially the last one that I did on Rhobs car AND from up north too.

I'll hit it with MAPP gas tomorrow night -- thanks for all the suggestions.

The other one came apart without much fight....
