Default how about some flexable polyurethane front splitters?

I've had a short hiatus from this forum since the death of my 951. Before it exploded, I had plans to produce some polyurethane AIR style splitters for the community at a reasonable price. The guy who was going to supply me backed out, and the project turned dormant for a while. I never did find another good 951, and ended up settling on an unmolested 3000gt vr4.

My fiberglass AIR splitter and wooden mold frame have been sitting in my basement since then, and while i could probably just sell it on here or ebay, I'd much rather see if I can make this happen. After all, I'm entrepreneurship major, so it's a good place to start.

I found some suppliers with decent prices, and I'm still thinking i can make these for around 250 or 300 plus shipping. The casting product is described as "... these semi-rigid plastics are virtually unbreakable and will really take a beating. They also offer exceptional abrasion resistance. They're good for making high-impact resistance tools, prototypes, abrasion resistant parts, foundry patterns..." ect.

old thread can be seen here: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...light=splitter

its a lot of reading.

I just wanted to make sure that there's still some interest here. I have a sample materials kit on the way, and I'm going to do some small scale casting and get back to you guys.

Thanks, and sorry for the promises/delays. - Kurt

Kurt, I think as before you'll have enough interested parties if you can come up with the goods. If you need some $ commitment beforehand then check with Admin. in here and get a list going.
I'm in.

I'd be interested too. I've always loved the look of the AIR style splitters. Just one concern - i've had my car lowered quite significantly. How deep are these splitters - i'd want to be sure it wouldn't be dragging on the ground when fitted.

Cheers.

samples should be here around the middle of next week. I'm going to make a clay 1/4 scale model and test it out to see how it all works.... then if all is well, it's off to production. I'm glad to see there's still lots of interest = )

the casting material comes in a semi-transparent amber color. for a little extra, i could dye them to be whatever color you'd like, throughout. I havent tested the material yet, but i would imagine you could get any deep abrasions out with some medium grit sand paper.

Painting polyurethanes can be very difficult, especially when a mold release is used. When i cast these splitters, I plan on using a special method to incorporate a coating of primer in the casting process, so they come to your door pre-primed. if for some reason you have to repair them, you can use plast-coat automotive primer or a simmilar product. they can usually be found in cans at stores like autozone.

Thumbs up

I'd be interested in one as well. Any idea on the weight difference between fiberglass & polyurethane? The fiberglass unit is pretty light.

How ironic .... I pulled up the old thread this morning to see if it had new life. I am still interested. Good luck.
