Steering Vibration - quick q's
I have some vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds. Couple of quick questions:
- does the 944 platform have any 'known weaknesses' in the front suspension that can cause problems? For example, on my BMW 535, the front thrust bushings are problematic.
- one of my rear control arm bushings (caster block i believe is the term) has a pretty good tear in it, could that be the source of my problem?
Here's what I can state is in good shape on the car:
- front wheels balanced, true. Tires true.
- new ball joints
- no apparent play in the tie rods but they could use a good inspection to be sure
Thanks in advance!

Take the car to a GOOD tire shop, have them rebalance the tires and alignment. That fixed my issues (as long as the steering system and suspention is alright).
Not sure if there is any real weakness in the 944, but i don't think so.
If there are vibrations in the steering wheel, it means something is up with the front of the car (suspension, alignment, balancing etc), if there is vibrations in the WHOLE car at speeds, it means the rear end requires attention (balance, alignment, faulty component etc).
PS; A bad steering shaft will cause vibrations in the steering wheel.
