I got a set of replicas (Miglia's) to keep my street wheels from eating into my track budget. If it is really 4 18x10's @65 as the add says, they probably won't clear the springs at the front without a spacer.

Although they may look the same, there is just something about "falsies" that trouble's me. ;-)

Falsies, how many people could even tell them apart from the OEM twists if shown side by side on two cars...

Second, I also have a set of original 951 Fuchs that I put on the car from time to time. For just street driving I CANNOT tell the difference that the added 32 lbs. adds to the vehicle. I've never tracked the car so I cannot speak on those terms but again just around town I cannot feel any difference. I've even tried them back to back but that 30 lbs. just doesn't show up. Now the 15lbs around my own personal mid-section, well that's another story.........................
I will not dispute your experience, but somthing does not add up.
My gut says the 18" twist replicas should be about 45-50 maybe even 55lbs heavier with tires. You should be able to detect 50 + lbs of additional unsprung weight.

Fuchs are very light compared to most other wheels. Do you have heavy *** snow tires on the fuchs and a lightweight race tire on the twists??

Somthing fishy

My replicas are 17's so the weight quoted is probably incorrect. The 17's have Yokahamas on them and the Fuchs had Bridgestone Potenza RE7XX somethings.

Replica's on average are about 6-9lbs heavier per corner.

I spoke to someone at wheel enhancements, and the difference between replicas and originals (be it Porsche OEM, BBS or whatever) is the weight.

I believe the lightest 18" wheels are from BBS, or was that Fikse? don't recall what he said, but the original ones go for $4,000 for a set, weigh something like 18lbs. Aftermarket was for $1,500 and weighed in at a massive 26lbs+

The thing to me is that given Hosram's quoted 8lbs a piece deal it comes in as 32 lbs difference for the 17's versus the 16's. For a weekend street driven car I just can't justify the extra $3,500 to save 32 lbs. Don't get me wrong I would really like to have some LMs on my car but there's a lot of things I would like. I don't know the weight of Fuchs but they probably weigh a tad more than 18 lbs. so the weight difference may be even smaller.

I remember Matt H used to jump in on this subject quite a lot. As I recall he worked for Bridgestone and said that he'd test driven many many different setups on and off the track and could never feel 30 lbs divided amungst the 4 wheels. I cannot feel the difference and I've tried to. Perhaps if the car was a dedicated track junkie and I spent many weekends I'd find the difference. The original poster indicated that he wasn't going to track the car and thus I'll stick by my advice.

My eventual plan is to polish the Fuchs, old school polished spoke black background style, and use them from time to time.

If memory serves the 16" 951 Fuchs weigh approx 14lbs EACH, all the weights i mentioned were for EACH wheel, not a combo of all four together (just to make sure that we are all on the same page here).

Skip the fakes. Really. That's just the cheap way out. Sure, you're abiding by Porsche's technical bulletin on not using 18's, but you're also running a much heavier wheel. So it's not a win-win situation.

Here are ACTUAL numbers, pulled from my '91 S2.

Stock 16" D90's-
Front 16x7 with 205/55/16 weighs 40.5lbs (with almost new tread).
Rear 16x8 with 225/50/16 weighs 45lbs (with tread almost to the wear bars).
Tires- Yokohama AVS Es100's

18" 993 Wide Body Hollow Spoke's-
Front 18x8 with 225/35/18 weighs 43.5lbs.
Rear 18x10 with 285/30/18 weighs 54lbs.
Tires- Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (pole positions on rear)

You will see that a 18x8 with a 225/35 weighs LESS then my D90 16x8 with 225/50.

I have close to $1900 wrapped up in my set. I got the wheels for $775 shipped (two had been weld repaired and refinished). I then refinished the other two for $250, bought my Potenzas for $640 shipped off eBay (brand new! They cost $1000+ off Tire Rack!). I then spent $70 dollars for the hollow spoke valve stems and close to $100 to get it all mounted. It's better to find a package that comes with relatively new tires, as I had to wait over a month trying to chase down these valve stems!

I could easily differentiate between 17 TT's and 18 TT's. The back of the spoke would tell me, as well as the valve stem. Yes, I realize these are miniscule, but still.

I added 24lbs to my car in rotating mass, and didn't feel a change. The 993/996 Hollows are some of the lightest 18's you are going to find in those sizes (for the money).

Remember, you get what you pay for. I'd make my purchase again in a heartbeat!

I went from 16" bbs rs wheels to 18" 993 turbo twists and i could feel the difference... I think a lot of the difference though is if you have a good steering rack that can handle the weight. The best wheels I've felt were the 15" fuchs on my dad's 944 that felt like feathers. you also have to consider that my car had a fuched up suspension that shook back and forth at 75mph and leaked a lot.

question: where exactly is the hollow part in the hollow spoke turbo twists? mine are authentic 993 turbo twists but it seems the back of each spoke is carved out, but there was no real "hollow" spoke, just the back shaved out in a C shape. do I have hollow spokes?
