whats the deal with turbo twist replicas?

Whats the deal with turbo twist replicas? Has anyone here used them? Do they hold up just as well? What would b the drawbacks? Curious, cause theyre cheap!! As far a i can tell, they look identical.

You can find the real ones (solid spoke take-offs) for about the same price if you look around. I would imagine the solid spokes weigh around the same or less than the aftermarket ones.

The replica wheels will look similar, but it ends there. The original wheels in the used market are worth the small premium over the replica wheels as new.

Here is a deal of a full set of aftermarket Turbo Twist wheels on Ebay: $200 + $105 shipping.

(no affiliation, etc) - unfortunately, the 65mm offset only works for the 911 rear wheels. They don't appear to have any other offsets available.

I can get the replicas for $350 or less! New in box. I havent found any used OEM, that come close to touching this price.

the replicas are a lot heavier. So if your looking for looks, a replica does just fine... Performance wise, they are nothing but a draw back.

Not too worried about weight, I never plan to track the car.

OOps...same auction.

Don't do it, they're heavy and destroy the feel for the road. Get hollow spoke twists that are super light and 100% better than anything aftermarket. I'm not kidding - you'll regret it as soon as you do it. You don't have to track the car to feel the difference.

Don't get crap for your 951. Check out Mike's thread for $1,050 + shipping for his set of wheels. I've bought tons of stuff from Mike for my project - best of the best stuff.

Ok, when I first bought an 87S many years ago I bought after market Mille Miglia rims.

I bent ALL four of them within a year and no wheel place would touch em as far as trying to straighten them out. So I wound up taking them to a machinist who did what he could but all of them took a tremendous amount of weight to balance.

I would go ahead and spend the money just so you aren't paying twice like I did.

FWIW I now use turbo twists for track rims.

the fakes are 26-27 lbs, i want to say the hollow spokes are 19 lbs but let me find out

Edit:
the hollow spokes are 19lbs and 23 lbs

Thats a big difference, and they are a better quality wheel.

If you get the fake ones you will notice slower turns, harder bumps, slower braking, decrease in handling. Not worth it IMO.

Okay I'll fess up. I've got aftermarket Twists. Have had them for 3-4 years.

First, I've never bent a single rim. Maybe I'm lucky maybe not.

Second, I also have a set of original 951 Fuchs that I put on the car from time to time. For just street driving I CANNOT tell the difference that the added 32 lbs. adds to the vehicle. I've never tracked the car so I cannot speak on those terms but again just around town I cannot feel any difference. I've even tried them back to back but that 30 lbs. just doesn't show up. Now the 15lbs around my own personal mid-section, well that's another story.........................
