Default Any info on whether the STP or K&N oil filter is good or bad?

I searched and found that STP # S6941 filter that is available at autozone fits our car and someone said it was the same one porsche sold OEM just with different paint. If this is true that would be great no more having to ship these things when I need them.

I also found that pelican sells a K&N HP-4001 that is also carried by autozone, any word on this product, better, worse, average, etc.

I just want to know if I should not use them for any reason. Thanks

Don't know about the STP. The K&N is just fine. You can easily buy a Mahle filter (OEM) from Paragon or pelican for cheaper. (atleast they were when I last purchased one.)

well the Mahle ones are around 6-8 I think, but if the STP is good then it only costs about 5 and no shipping.

I paid $15 for a K&N and I stopped getting it cause I found out it had cardboard in it, so I went to 944online and got a Mahle for $5 which also had the valve, I think it's better to stick with factory OEM...

you can never go wrong with wix filters. Napa locations here carry the gold (wix) filters for 951.
Not cheap, wix is one of the best filters money can buy.

So now I am considering Wix gold, unfortunately they are 13$ but with shipping thats almost what the Mahle ones cost. Does anyone else like ore dislike wix. I am really looking to find a good filter that I can buy locally

i use the stp filter, who wants to have to order oil filters online when you don't have to? Sounds rediculous.

The dealer near me sells the STP version as OEM now, but in Porsche packaging. I had one of each in front of me and they were the same. I believe they are made by Champion Labs & are good quality. I bought them only because they were on sale locally for a nice price. However once I use them, I plan on going back to Mahle.
