Hayward are pricey, Mike the Pipe rings a bell not used him though, have you ever heard of Simpson Race Exhausts, they can do the job but not used them either. The make a complete system for a guy I was chatting to for his TVR that had an LS1 dropped in it. Headers included and very tight gaps either side of the engine. The guy was very happy with their work but thats all I know. They were on my shortlist.....

It's getting quite exciting in the UK regarding the number of engine projects going on at the moment. Rick has done a great job with his car considering the philosophy he's been working on i.e. maintining the stock capacity and block with an 8v head and getting as much out of it as he can. Not only has he got good power and torque he's also getting good fuel economy, which is a sign of a well running and efficient engine - getting more for less fuel. It'll be interesting to see if he's reached the end of the road with his car now or if there is still more to come.

Nick - what about a lightened flywheel. I.e. try to minimise the amount of power soaked up by the inertia of spinning bits of metal? Not sure what it would be worth, but it's got to be worth something. I suppose at this stage of your project you are looking for as many small steps as possible.

Looked at the flywheel, the dont like the Fidanza ones plus its a street car so dont want all the rattles and the 9m one looks good but too expensive. Maybe later when I have more money to spend.

It's pretty cheap to get a stock lightened fly...
Just for the record, could one of you guys give us a basic outline of Rick's mods please. I know he's done an amazing amount of work on his car over time. I don't believe when I saw it, that it was running quite to it's peak. We were behind it on that trip into London Nick and it sounded a little rough, however I'd like to know what he's got in there just for comparisons sake.

You heard bad things about Fidanza Nick?? I have used Fidanza flywheels on racing Jags with huge torque with no problems before

Not bad things, they are too light for me and make rattles when used with 968 drivetrain.

Patrick, you cannot lighten 968 flywheel its dual mass. If you want to see Ricks mods go to cannell.co.uk for the most detailed car build rundown you will ever read!!

Whoops sorry I forgot you had the 968 fly.
I've checked out Rick's site before, but you need a drinks break getting through that. Just wondered where he's up to on his journey.
I'll look again.

From what i've gleaned on this forum is that the Fidenza flywheels should be OK as long as you check balance before installation.

As far as Ricks car goes you can refer to his website for more details but off the top of my head he's got LR Super 75 turbo, a reworked cammed and flowed head, Wolf 3d with MAP, Coil on plug ignition, LR stage 2 IC, H&S exhaust and vent-to-atmosphere Tial 46 DPW with Tial BOV and alot of other custom/trick bits. I think he's running around 20psi boost.

You can lighten 951 flywheel.. and use it, dont know about how it would work with your rpm sensor. I have 5 kg taken away from my 951 flywheel and I dont like it, simply because its a streetcar and in-gear breaking is affected. Of course car revs more happily etc but when it goes on boost everything happens fast anyway..

The fidanza Flywheel will cause vibes on a 968 at certain rpm its proven, no probs with torque or anyting power related just a compromise for a street car no probs for a track car. Marcus the 951 flywheel does not work with my setup.

Nice link to Simpson Exhausts - I hadn't heard of them before

Try asking them for a price for some custom headers and a crossover pipe....they just charged a 968 owner I know £1.3k for a full system from the headers back i.e. not including the headers.

That's way too expensive. You'd get something cheaper from SFR or Lindsey wouldn't you?
