Excellent AND street usable
My PO did this to his 951 and drove it at Sebring for many years.
With PIAA 55Watts each side for the 'regular' (non-high-beam) fog in an E1 lens, and Ultrastar 55Watters each side in the H2 lens pop-up low-beams, I get (almost street-legal) VERY clear lights, and if I flick the high beams on, I get a 'tunnel' of super-bright light (PIAA 110Watts each side through the Euro Fog E1 lens) AND 110 Watts each side through the Ampilux E2 lens high beams) means that even at night, "flash-to-pass" is easily visible, which may also be a concern...
We had a local 944/951 meet at night time recently, and I looked at the other cars light output and cutoff patterns in a side-by-side comparison...

Best street-usable light output (by some considerable margin) was my car with the Euro Fogs active.
Second best was H4.
DOT was abysmal... sealed-beam is teh suck!!!
If by some chance you're passing through Orlando -while it's dark- on the way to Sebring, You're welcome to see for yourself.

Get the Rennbay lighting kit. They are Rennlist sponsors and Travis is a stand up guy!

I made my own using 10ga wires and a 4ga lead from the alternator. Its a beefier than the Rennbay one, but not quite as stout as the Iceshark one. I run either regular Hella 100/90 watt bulbs or the Yellowstar 130/100 watt ones. Needless to say, its VERY bright.....as in I think the xenons in my dads e39 5 series are crap whenever I drive it....

HID in a 7" lens wouldn't be very bright. They need projectors.
The brightest option is the rennbay.com rewiring kit with 100w bulbs with e-codes and euro driving lights.

For night time track use I would just go with additional lights. The stock ones are not that bright, but what you need is apex lighting mostly. You pretty much know what is infront of you, but in the dark can't see shat to the sides. I ran a 90 mintute night race in my 944 and use stock headlights. They were fine when following other cars since I could follow their tail lights. The issue came when I got in clean space. I could see infront of me ok, but not around the apexes. brigher would be nice, but the even then the regulars do NOT show at 45 deg to the road.
So I recommenend additional lights.
This was what some 944 spec guys did when they race the raced the 25hrs of thunderhill. Seems to have worked as the finished the race with no issues at all.

Scroll down to see the pictures. As you can tell most of the lighting comes from the 4 new lights. I assume those are wired seperately from the rest of the car.

For stock housings, BMW 5 series low beam projector (e34), with the projector cut out, and an e46 BiXenon projector built back into the housing, with Philips HID ballasts, 4300k bulbs, all wired off the stock switch to relays and a decent gauge wire to the ballast. You WILL NOT beat that setup for lighting it's what I'm building for my Datsun right now.
Oh and I had 100w in the foglight housings (euro) but results can vary.

Depends how youre electronics are, i myself never had issues running 100w on FULL stock system on turbo or NA. However, local turbo owner always kept burning the bulb with 100w, his wiring looked bad anyways and i told him so, he didn't listen.

I ran E code lenses and bi-xenon HIDs in my last 944, awesome light and no need to upgrade the wiring as the HIDs only draw 35 watts a side. Some friends run a similar setup in a NASA 25 hour Miata. You can upgrade your wiring and put in 100 watt bulbs and still the HIDs will put you on the trailer. They are fantastic. I started with E codes with stockish H4 bulbs and upgraded to the HID setup. Both were dramatic improvements.
