Does the latch part that holds the pin in place close effectively? Maybe the spring on that is bad?

The spring is rusted, but I pulled on the cable and it does go back and forth fully...

I found it much easier to get the latch set up correctly on my hood by unbolting the pin section from the hood and then placing it into the reciever while the hood was open to see if it sat in it correctly. Then you can look at it while moving it around to see why it keeps popping up and whatnot.

It also is quite fun to shoot the pin and spring assembly into the air with the opener.

I did that several times, last night I saw that the lower housing that holds the latch was loos and I tightened it up, the latch was loose too and did the same, let's see how it works...

My mechanic came over and determined that the spring had no tension on it, he pulled it up by the corner and tha cable feels tighter, drove it home, went over bumps and got up to 100 and it never went up. Today I got my rubber hood undermounts that go on the fender from Ian and put all 4 on, now it sits comfortably, problem solved, thanks all you thinking tanks for your suggestions and valuable input...
