I think there must be an air-trap at the top of the tank or the shape of the filler neck is such that it prematurely clicks the pump off. I can usually squeeze in an extra 10ltrs or so at least after the pump has clicked off and as a result get the gauge to full.

My low fuel warning light does not come on when you start the car for some reason but it does work. I suspect they all do that for some strange reason.

It makes sense.
There is no "problem" that the DME is concerned with.
(I don't know if the second pole on these sensors goes through the DME or they are direct, but same result).
The oil light illuminates with the key in the "on" position because there is zero oil pressure.
It does see fuel in the tank in the "on" position, however.

not really.

gas weighs 6lbs/gal.
1/4 tank about 5.5 gal, full, a squeak over 21gal

15x's 6=90lbs and you're saying you can feel a difference.

Absolutely there's a difference...when pushing it on the track anyway. I typically put in 10 gallons at a time and there is a noticeable difference in the car's handling before/after. 90# is a lot of weight!

Yeah, I could tell at Nelson Ledges for 944fest. I went out for one session, between sessions, since I ran nearly dry, I filled it... full for some reason... and the dynamics of the car on the track were noticibly altered...

So THIS explains why the car seemed faster after I took a dump last night

You can trust the light, even when racing. As long as it blinks when sloshing you're golden. When it's on solid, seek go juice at your earliest convenience. These simple rules should keep you under power just fine. And yes, it doesn't come on during the bulb check.

I though a gallon weighed 8 lbs. Does gas somehow weight less than water by volume?

Oh yeah - water is heavy stuff.

I have an orange light that comes on, only when really low, when the needle hits the empty mark. Manual says that once the light comes on, the 8 liters of reserve is left.

I trust my light fully. I plan for about 40 miles after it comes on. Every time I fill up after the light is on I get about 17.5 gallons.

The 1986 manual says that the light comes on when the car has 2.1 gallons left (21 gallon tank).

I think maybe the MY86 cars have a different capacity of which turns the light on.

I know I rarely saw it on my first and third cars (both being 86). I see it a lot on my cabby however.

I get almost exactly 19 gallons on my 86 once the light goes on. I have gotten 60 miles on "the light", but I was seriously worried the last ten.

I set my suspension up with 1/2 tank of gas. When full it pushes, when below 1/4 it is loose.
