If we need a support vehicle you could drive my truck too. No sweat. Might be easier if we decide we want to take jacks along. Just don't pull a brain fart and put gasoline in it. I know you're not used to oil burners.

I'll talk to Cornejo today and see what that motley crew is brewing up. I'd like to see Jason's Z06, assuming you guys would be able to be within sight of each other and there won't be a fight.

What's the surface like to really get into the high speed numbers? Better, worse than good tarmac? How bad is it to clean the salt from the car afterwards?
Love to come though it may be further than Sweanders.

Hey I can be civil if HE can LOL. Sounds good to me.

You not planning on running then Brian?? Somehow those spare parts you have here and there need to find their way under my hood before then!

I can't remember what the "track" is exactly, but it's an old air base runway I do believe.

It's a decommissioned airfield. No salt anywhere.

It's a 1.5 mile runway. You've got a mile to get going, and you'll go through timing gates to determine your speed at the mile mark. You've got a half mile to get back down under control. Easy enough for Porsches, but C5 Corvette drivers will crack their brake rotors if they're running stock items. I've seen it every time I've gone.

We are talking the March/April date here.
Whenever they set the date.

There are 2 per year.

so what would the checklist be if one were interested in doing something a little less lofty, like say the 155mph accuracy test? new tires, brakes, fluids, what else?

Brian...you've been many times....

I'd answer this but it'll be my first time to run.

You won't see 155 in a 951 unless you've modded it. It'll take more than a chip and a MAF. I don't think a K26/6 will get you there. IIRC Jeff had a Lindsey Super 61 turbo (I think) on a 2.8L, and I think he was in that speed range. For reference, when mine was producing 255 rwhp, my best speed was 145. I'm not the best driver, but I wasn't leaving 10mph out there.

You're still accelerating pretty rapidly at the mile mark. Hitting a specific rate of speed through the traps wouldn't be as easy as it sounds, unless it coincides with your best effort.

FWIW, I've only noticed two kinds of cars that seem to have problems. The aforementioned anemic Corvette C5 brakes, and "specialty" cars set up for land-speed type of runs. For whatever reason if you see a car grenade it's tranny, it's inevitably one of those POS hoopties. That sucks major *** too, because then they really have to sweep the track, lest a motorcyclist buys the farm on tranny shrapnel. Since those turbo-'Busa boys get up near 200mph, it's no joking matter.

Overall it's low-key and pretty fun. The crowd tends to be very gearhead-oriented, regardless of make of ride they bring.

oh it's modded alright....i haven't dynoed in a while, but at the boost levels i'm running currently i'm guessing about 330rwhp. i'm thinking i would like to do this, but i'll have to convince the wife of the expenses.
