I drove from Baltimore Md. to Willoughby Ohio (Stoddard Porsche) for my 968.
I was looking for a 951 and just happened to find the 968. Drove for 6 hours in the pouring rain.

Like SeaCay, I had a bunch of stuff crammed in the back of the car. The dealer gave me a couple boxes of parts and a set of snow tires.

More recently, I found my 951 about 25 miles from home. Car was listed on Craigslist. The guy is was a rennlister. Nice guy. Got a pretty good deal on the car. It was well kept.

Pics of the cars the day I got them home.

Flew to Adelaide from Sydney Saturday morning. Saw the car, handed over the cheque. Drove back to Sydney (1000 miles) in about 12 hours on the road. Reached 240 kmh and it felt like it had plenty left. Pretty decent testdrive...

Flew to Southern Cali and drove back to Seattle for my first 951. My next two were local. Flew to Seattle for the next one and drove back to Phoenix. The next one was a flight to Boulder, CO and drive back to AZ. The latest one was a drive up to Medford, OR and drive back to AZ. It's definitely an addiction.

Bought my car from a guy in Tampa, FL when I was going to school in Pensacola. He was nice enough to meet me near Jacksonville.

I flew from seattle to oakland to look at a 73k mile 86 that was perfect and it sold the morning I flew in. I then found my current car on autotrade, looked at it and fell in love with it. so I drove it back the next day. ran flawless.

I COMPLETELY STOPPED looking for 951s to buy... Nothing was close enough, everything was black or red... about 3 days later I looked on ebay at 2 am (remember, I had stopped looking) "WOW never seen that color before, good price, decent miles, car looks very nice! Oh well, probably on the East coast again <scrolls back up> !!!Helena, MT!!!

Car was 100 miles away and I just happened to be going to Helena that weekend already :-)
Ironically, my 951 was bought EXACTLY 6 years after my 944 (w/in the hour)

The farthest purchase was my 951, but there's a bit more to the story, since you asked.

Found the car through a Swiss Rennlister from the e-mail lists back in 2000 while I was living in the Caribbean working for a US company. The entire operation was an example of the trust and camaraderie that most people on here exhibit towards fellow members.

My "friend" located the car in Winterthur, Switzerland, sent me pics and when I decided I wanted the car, he put down a deposit on my behalf. This was in late October.

By early December, the owner was eager to complete the sale, so right before the Xmas. holidays my friend took the car to the Porsche dealer for a PPI and when it checked out OK, I wired the owner the rest of the money. My friend collected the car from the seller and took it back to the dealer to fit new brakes and some other maintenance.

During the Xmas. holidays I flew to Amsterdam, took a train through the Netherlands and Germany to Winterthur, where he picked me up in his Baltic Blue 944S2 and gave me a hair raising ride to the hotel in true Porsche style. We registered the car the following day, and the day after I drove 1,000 km from Winterthur to Barcelona.

It's strange, but I still feel like I just bought the car every time I drive it.
