I heard that even the low lead av fuels have more lead than leaded fuel

I ran it years ago in one of my old 944T's and it preformed fine and was cheaper than race gas. After asking people in the aviation industry I was told it would do fine and cause no issues, which no longer than I ran it (about a year off and on) all was ok.

It's available for about 3.50 a gallon at my local hanger. I have no cat and thought that it would be fine.
I used it in my last 951 with no issues for about two years, but wanted to know if I was just lucky.
Thanks,

George

Lead will shorten the life of your O2 sensor as well...

The density of Av Gas is lower than the density of automotive fuel, the engine must be tuned for the Av gas.

Does the density of gas effect where the gas is stoich? IE: Av. gas wouldn't be stoich at 14.7:1?

John,

Do you mean tuning for 100 octane fuel? When using this fuel and a 100 pump octane tune, the avgas gave similar readings on my 02 gage as pump 100. It ran very well and similar to $6.50 pump octane.

I have no cat, and 02 sensors are cheap and easy to replace.

No, he means that av-fuel weighs less. Injectors flow by volume, so you will be slightly leaner.

George, couldn't you get separate maps for pump and Avgas?

Patrick,

Yes, I can tune the car to Avgas. It's just that running Avgas with a 100octane pump tune, it seemed to run very similar a/f ratios. I'll see when my new motor is done. I just like the thought of being able to run 100 octane for .50 cents more per gallon than crappy 91 gas here in Az.

I did not have any signs that Avgas ran leaner than regular old 100 pump. I didn't go over 20psi though running this fuel.

Thanks DJC,

My new 3.0 motor was very expensive. I will spend the extra few bucks when I want to run more boost.

I always appreciate candor. One would assume that avaition fuel is of the highest quality. Small turbo aircraft run very low rpm's as compared to petrol auto engines, so this makes sense.
