Best turbo for a stock 951?
I'm looking for the best hybrid turbo for a stock 951. It should be as small and fast as possible and should be able to deliver around 350hp at the flywheel. 3" inlet is ok. Everything else should be plug&play and it should be water cooled as the stock unit.
Is there a common opinion for the best turbo of this kind?

Bigger turbo means more fuel (injectors and most likely a 3bar/adjustable pressure regulator), then you need aftermarket chips..........if you do tuning, you require a fuel controller and possibley a wideband.....
The list get's bigger.................
Best turbo for STOCK would be the same (K26/6 or K26/8)

Ball bearing turbochargers offer the latest and greatest capablility for spool and transitional boost performance. Not only do they spin faster, they are made with less parts and use a more durable bearing design compared to their journal bearing counterparts.
For the Garrett GT series, I'd say the GT30R would meet your needs and exceed them by some. For a more "bolt on" option, a T3/T4R ball bearing unit fitted with 50, 57 or 60 trim would make your goal. A slight mod to the water pipe(s) must be done to accomodate these turbos.

I'm looking for a small-as-possible-quick-spooler that could hold 16 PSI to redline on a 2.5l engine. Hot side should be based on a wet KKK and compression side on something like garrett. I had a "baby-turbo" some years ago from huntley, that worked very well.
In the meantime there are several suppliers for 951 turbos in the US, but I can't spend time/money to test them all.
So I hope for some experiences...

The K26 from the 968TS would be my dream turbo. >14 psi@2900/min. But I can't find a source for that part. So I'm looking here for an alternative...

A good performing turbo and a "quick spooler" is what we all would like.
A turbo which spools BETTER than stock, yet OUTPERFORMS stock is the holy grail turbo.
I have come to the conclusion from reading a thousand postings, where I can never recall someone saying, " Brand X turbo will spool better than stock and perform better", that it appears if you do not want to sacrafice spool up characteristics that the ancient 27/6 seems to be a good bet.
Several turbos are said to out perform the 27/6, but at slower spool.
There are claims the spool of a particular turbo which out performs stock will be similar or that the spool is acceptable, or "hey it's only 300 rpms slower spool" (which logic could add 'only 300 rpms' until the turbo spooled at 6000), but not Better spool, More performance.
All of that is from reading posts.
Personally I have a stock 26/6 with a Vitesse chip, 3 bar, LBE, and it spools quick, holds boost, and works well.
Just my $.02 from reading posts, not from experience

Also, if you change your turbo, you will need a lot to go with it to manage fuel, timing, ignition, boost, etc. Your car will be pretty far from stock when you have it properly set up. If you don't do it properly, you won't be driving your car long.
You many want to start by looking at the K27/6 as it may close to what you want. It generates more boost at similar rpm and will hold to redline. And, yes, it's just as old of a design as the K26/6 or /8.
