Tell me about it Mike. The guy claimed the car basically fell apart when he got it home. He said there was a rear main leak and a host of other problems, and he was going with the vette engine to have reliable power. The engine built buy a guy, I think JLB Racing in TX by the PO. I bought it off ebay, it was gorgeous. It was the charcol color only available in 86 on the 951.

I'm in the market for another 951, that I want to modify to a 3.0 liter and get around 450 rwhp, but keep it mostly stock looking.

The car is definitly not slower, I can assure you! I would not have done the swap but I was going to need to rebuild the old engine. Like Jacob said, it just fell apart. I wasn't a happy camper.

It's very hard to beat the sound and torque of the LS6, so I have no regrets.

There's not a chance it's even close to being slower. Here's a 100% stock LS-6 motor. Look at the Torque curve. A simple ECU reflash and decent exhaust and you see another 30 to 40 @ the wheels.

I dont know what technology is in those motors, but the later model Toyota 1UZ V8's have variable intake runner length and variable cam, which makes for a very nice flat torque curve.

Still. I don't care how much faster or slower a car is, you don't put a vette engine in a Porsche. Period.

You're right, that would be as bad as putting a Toyota motor in a Lotus, or a VW engine in a Porsche, or a ...........

The difference being those cars come out with them factory... except the Atom which is a kit car you can make and put whatever motor you like in.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand. if you want a vette motor in a sports car, why not just get a vette.

Hey, I been enjoyin the heck outta my Lindsey Racing 2.8L and it don't even have no final tune yet. Done wore both back tars all smooth like. It don't quite bust em loose in 3rd, but all I gotta do is mash the go pedal in first or second and it gets all loosey goosey and bangs the rev limiter real fast like. Thats purdy close to what one o them chebby motors kin do and mine makes purdy noises doin it too. Jest yesterdy I whipped round the corner and zipped down the street to Lindsey's revin all up high. Dave and Mike both said they thought they heared a sport bike a comin up the street until I pulled in an that rumbly idle gave me away. I was pickin up some 180-410 front springs and 30mm torsion bars to slap on get all adjusted out by next weekend. I'm a goin after that brand spankin new GT3 thats showin up at my autocross.

Personally, because they're fugly. Kind of reminds me of a Geo Storm humping an RX-7 (the c-5's). The 951 is still my favorite however, I can see the attraction some of these guys have to swapping in an LS motor.

I agree - it takes a certain persuasion to appreciate the sbc 951....a "tendency", if you will.

I like the honesty..even when you on a C5 Z06 correct? What negatives can you say about the 951?
