Default Target: 350 RWHP

Alrighty, well, I sold a bunch of my stock parts and bought a couple 'go big' parts, so I guess I'm going all in on my 951. Top and bottom end are already rebuilt, including the Lindsey head steam vent kit. Car currently has a MBC as well.

Currently on my bench are 72lb injectors w/Lindsey fuel rail, Tial 38 WG. LSD tranny also awaiting install. I will be going to a MAF setup with new hardpipes as well.... undecided on Vitesse vs SFR at the moment, and I don't intend to turn this into a vendor battle. Exhaust will be stock at first to pass emissions then will be going to 3" from the wastegate back. Also to be installed is a new Mocal oil cooler replacing the factory unit. AC has been deleted.

Target is quick spool, boost no later than 3K rpm. I want it to be streetable and to run on pump gas, which here in OR is 91-92 octane. For high boost and track days I have no problem sourcing some race gas. The car is not mint... it's high mileage and will be a driver and eventual track ****. All maintenance will be up to par - the car will be top notch mechanically when completed.

How much turbo does a brother need to get to 350rwhp? Seems that Stg 2 from either Vitesse or SFR, or a GT30R would do it. I guess a better phrased question (given the above setup) would be - WHAT IS THE MOST ECONOMICAL TURBO TO GET 350 RWHP?

I've searched and there are obviously different ways of doing it. I want to hear some more

A GT30 will get you there.

Look at a couple posts down. Ted is selling all the HP supporting goodie's.

I would really like to replace my t04e (who even knows the specs on it? Lol) with a gt30r. Tim makes it super attractive with the replacement crossoverpipe, downpipe, oil line, etc. . .

The right spec GT30 can support 500WHP... seen it on a few RB25 motors (2.5 litre).

Depends what you mean by economical, if you mean cheap, then there are cheaper turbos out there to get to 350WHP, if you mean efficient, thats a different story.

If you're going the Gt30r route, if you just want say 350-450whp and don't ever plan on more, do a .63a/r hotside and it will be extremely responsive. A Gt3071r will be a tad more responsive than a 3076r at that power level, but probably just ~100-300rpm so barely noticeable. There are of course plenty of cheaper ways to do it, but a GT setup is about the best money can buy if you are looking for the best.

What kind of lag are we looking at with the GT series turbos? When is 1 bar realized (on average) with the gt28's, gt3071/76?

For people who have done the gt's, what all is required with the install? can you cut off the flange on the stock DP and weld in the correct size?

That's my question that would eventually go to TurboTimmay. Is all the exhaust modding required for the turbo. I love his crossover but that's on the list for the future.

Hard work. New cutom downpipe. Cut and re-weld up pipe (Crossover) with new matching turbine flange. Any housing clearance issues, etc.. Worth every ..

But... If its for the street. Fun trips. a DE every now and then..... Vitesse. The bolt on application saves you money Compared to a custom install of a standard GT series turbo. And from what I see and hear on this forum.. You probably won't notice much of a difference. His kits may seems pricey from a beginners first glance, but the money he saves you in time and labor evens it right out. Reliablity ends up priceless though. I would have all his stuff If I didn't custom make things myself.

Flipside. Pure competitive edge... Go the custom turbo route.

To be fair, Tim does bolt in turbos that will make over 350WHP too...

I'm signing up for this thread. It looks like the direction I want to follow myself with the 2-3 DE's auto-x and a buch more fun on the street with all those "muscle cars" out there waiting to get busted by a little 4-banger!

This is the same exact thing i was talking to with one of the listers. I just have to call innovative turbos to see what they say and the price of course. I will report back when i find out the goodies.

I had the vitesse stage 2 with my old 944 turbo and dyno'd 342 rwhp on 93 octane with 17 psi of boost. The car had a full 3 inch exhaust with a stage 1 head job from LR.

I sold it to a gentlemen in Florida who put a corvette engine in it.

WHAT???!!!! Why would he EVER put a corvette motor into a 951 with 342rwhp with Vitesse turbo!!! That is wrong! Unless the vette motor was one of the new ones, the car is now SLOWER then before for sure. Plus, all that work to do it.
