A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So find someone with a lot of money and is also really stupid and tell them it is a Ferrari. Do that or have your car dipped in pure gold.

Really though, I don't get why these cars don't go for as much as a Toyota Supra or a Nissan 300ZX Turbo. Meanwhile 911 Targas go for 20K+. Who's making up these prices?

I believe what pushes the value of the 951, is by having EVERYTHING working, which includes the cruise, headlight washer system, electronic hatch open thing, heater and so on........

It is becoming every more rarer (over here at least) to find a 951/944 with those items working.....

I think that the value of a 951 is what the buyer is willing to spend. I had a modded 951 that I bought off ebay in April 06 for $15,500. It had a vitesse stage 2, new paint, suspension, the whole nine yards. I put in new rocker switches, all black door panels, new dash light kit, new center arm rest with a black center console. I sold it in September 2006 (I know, I only had it for a few months) for $16k. I probably broke even, but there is a market for modded 951's if they are still original looking and in excellent shape in and out. When I get another 951, hopefully very soon, I will restore it to as new as possible and try to get everything working, ie clock, central locking ect. Then I will work on the engine. I will probably go with a 3.0 L from SFR and a vitesse stage 3 with all the trimmings. I'm looking at probably $30-$35k including the price of the car, but it will be a long-term project and I wouldn't sell it.

Jake brought this car into my shop a little while ago and I was very impressed. I'd love to buy it off of him when he sells it but the higher the resale goes the harder that's going to be.

I am afraid you’ll learn that:

You can own a Porsche, but an older British sports car will own you.

Haha, so true! We work on a lot of British cars at my shop and based on what I've heard from our customers that seems to be the case. Jake can handle it I think, he's a good guy! Plus he has my shop five minutes from his house.

Well I just sold my 951 on Autotrader, 86 turbo with 100400 miles on it, exterior 9 out of 10, interior 8.5 out of 10. A few mods Autothority MAF setup, gauges etc for $9300. I paid $8000 for it 3 years ago.
