Default Symptoms of a bad torque tube?

I have a vibration in my driveline that I feel between 3800 to 4200 rpm in every gear and in neutral with the clutch engaged. I have checked the motor mounts and have eliminated those as the problem. The transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding so I don't think that could be the problem.

Has anyone experienced this problem? What symptoms does a torque tube show when it is bad. Should there be any movement at transmission where they meet?

Is it a big job to pull the torque tube off?

Does anyone have one for sale?

The bearing the the TT end to make a lot of noise when they go bad. Is it the original clutch with the rubber center core?

The PO stated he replaced the clutch which would have been about 50K ago. The vibration is coming from the rear end and is most noticable through the shifter. I replaced the transmission mount that was bad with a Lindsey solid mount so that can't be the cause either.

Will a clutch disc problem create a vibration with the clutch engaged?

Vibration combined with a noise that you would mistake as a throw out bearing, but generally in the rear of the car. Take your hatch carpet out to help diagnose.

The car has a floor again... it's just missing nearly every other body panel now.

Have you checked your balance shaft alignment? They tend to vibrate through that rev range when they are off a tooth

I just replaced all the belts & rollers. The vibration was the same before and after the job. I am sure that I got them on in the correct positions.

How long does it take to remove the torque tube? As long as I have it off should I just go in and replace the clutch at the same time since it has 50K on it? Would it be easier to buy a used tt and install it instead of rebuilding?

Are you sure the lower balance shaft pulley is installed in the correct keyway or have you checked it? Installing it in the wrong keyway can can vibrations like what you are describing.

I am sure the balance shafts are installed correctly as my buddy is the head Porsche mechanic at the Porsche dealership and he helped me do the job. He also has a 951. And the vibration was the same before and after the install.

The vibration came on suddenly when taking off from a stop light. I found the transmission mount was getting bad so I replaced it with a Lindsey solid mount. That reduced the vibration considerably which would indicate to me that the vibration is somewhere in the driveline. I can only conclude that since the motor mounts and transmission mount are good and the balance shafts are correct that it has to be in the torque tube or transmission. The transmission is smooth with no grinding.

I checked both and there is no play in either. No clicking or unusual noise either.
