I just had my 951 head reworked and wonder if there's any appreciable benefit to hand lapping the valves? I have the spring tool and lapping equipment. My only concern is residual lapping compound somehow finding its way to the new valve guides. Any thoughts?

Do it. Just make sure to wash the head really good afterwards.
I have done 100's of heads... I cut the valve with a stone, cut the valve seat, and then hand lap them.
Some say its not neccessary
