What are we looking at for the new pistons and the re-bore and hone, if you don't mind me asking.

No secret on the pistons as you can call them, $1400. Bore and finish - basic around $363 + shipping, unless I make a trip to TX for a long 4 day weekend. But I'm going to have the oil galley plugs tapped for threaded plugs, all three. I haven't decided if I'll o-ring the block. If I do, all of the above will be around $580.

I know the clearance is tight. Do the specs on the Mahle 104.5's come out spot on or do you send them to the machinist that does the boring and honing to dial it in for the pistons provided.

Sorry Dan I didn't see this question for some time. We are relying on the curve set by the Vitesse electronics so far and haven't had to play with that side of things. Once the big front mount i/c is on next week we may be able to see if that needs any tweaking, but I'm loathe to play with that side if not neccessary.

Send the pistons with the block, measure the pistons up 5-6mm above the bottom of the skirt, add tolerance - there is the bore.

Just got the first set of the rods for 3.0 L and 2.8 build up's. These rods are custom made here in Finland. Every rod weight 108.4G and about 150G less than stock 951 rods (1986), Total weight savings 600G. Looks a lot like those Wossner rods. Would be interested to know the weight of Wossner, Pauter, Carillo etc. rods. These rods will go to Beni's storker engine in Switzerland. Will get mine within couple of weeks.

Are you sure on those rod weights. That's 1/6th the weight of a Pauter.

http://www.944enhancement.com/html/engine_building.html

"In case you were wondering -
Stock = 837 grams
Carrillo = 720 grams
Pauter = 671 grams"

Add to that - Arrow Ti rods are about 400g.
I have some Wossners sitting on the bench but I don't recall the weight.

Keep in mind, the weight of the rods is subject to the design. It is VERY possible to have lighter rods made. ie, if you just call "xyz" rod maker, they will give you a standard rod. If you ask them to design it for a certain application, they will not be the same as what is listed above.

That’s the funny thing, about rod weights is everyone will have something a bit different. Pauter lists them as weighing 710 G’s. Chris has them at 671G’s Lindsey says 652 G’s and mine weighed (on my trusty coke scale) 657.4 when I had them balanced.
