Has anyone succesfully used a MAF from another car?
I would like to know if anyone has succesfully done a MAF conversion using a MAF from other cars.
The reason why i ask is because a friend of mine has kindly donated to me a MAF and harness from a stock 2002 Ford Mustang V6 3.8L. Now i know in order to convert to a MAF you would need some sort of piggyback in order to adjust the voltage it sends to the computer to make it work. I also have a Apexi Super AFC2 controller. The only reasons why i have heard this would not work is because of the calibration could be off on the MAF.
So basicly if the Mustang MAF hits 5 volts before or just beyond redline then that would mean that I cannot use it. (Right?)
But, If the MAF sends a signal from 0-5 volts to the computer but never reaches 5 volts before redline. then the calibration of the Mustang V6 3.8L N/A MAF could be close to whats needed for our 2.5L 4cyr turbo. So if the calibration is correct or close to whats needed then a piggyback computer can be used to massage the voltage to the computer. (whats your thoughts on this?)
Now my first plans on doing a MAF conversion this is what i thought of. Then I thought what the heck I could spare the headache and go buy a Vitesse or Lindsey kit. Or I can save about $1000 bucs and try and make this work.
Has anyone been known to succesfully do this before?

that is for NA though.
AFAIK no one has done this for a turbo without some sort of piggyback to convert the signal

Welll............ you're where I was 3 years ago. I remember wanting to do the same. It's just tougher than that. Much tougher. Some mafs have linear "transfer curves" - Do a search on those words in quotes. It will get you closer to your quest for knowledge. And others Don't. Most aren't even close to another. (Manufacturer to manufacturer) And then there's the Data in your ECU that may interpolate the wrong load and use a completey wrong area of the timing map based on these Fake or wrong numbers used to fool the ecu into thinking it needs more or less fuel. Also.. The DME seems to calculate a little differently when it comes to CFM Vs. Load VS Temp Vs timing. When compared to a typical current MAF set up. I still don't know a huge amount about this. I haven't had the time to get into this part. I've been too busy getting aquainted with all the other 951 intricacies. I will get this part down too though... In time.
Search.. Search. Re-search.
Good luck!
That explanation was quick and choppy. But... there's just too much to go into.

I have a 75mm Lindsey stage 1 maf that I would be willing to sell. Never mounted, I decided to go another route. I also have some plumbing and a cone filter to go with it. Pm me if you are interested.

The electronics in many of those MAFs are the same, but the size of the sampling tube is adjusted to direct a larger or smaller percentage of total air over the sensor.
