So the engine is hanging awaiting me to drop it when I realized there is not enough room to drop w/o taking off the distributor cap. pretty easy right?
Not so... both screws have been previously stripped. got off the top one but bottom is a no-turn and fully stripped.
what are my options? beat the **** out of it with a hammer and replace?
or can I take something else off to get that off?
TIA

Yes, as Dan says they are not screwed on. There is a spring loaded hook so you push the screw head in against the spring and quarter turn to release the hook. I think you need to push the screw in a good 1/4 to 1/2 inch to enable you to release the hook. It even worse to install them, espeically the lower one as the headlight mechanism bar is right where your screwdriver wants to go so you end up doing it at an angle.

Factory manuals say to make a screwdriver with a 90* bend in it to do the lower bolt/hold on for the cap. Do as others have said and try pushing in on them, or take the front belt cover off and take the whole cam gear cover off with the cap on it.
