Who replaces worn out bits with upgrades?
I was thinking about the various mods on my car and how they're all pretty much in response to getting rid of tired worn out bits. The list I've got keeps getting bigger and bigger...I think it goes something like this:
Loose/collapses front strut tower + bad ball joints -> koni yellows, 200lb front springs, and rennbay ball joint kit
destroyed front swaybar bushings -> bigger front swaybar with new bushings since you can't get delrin ones in the size of the old bar.
Leaky radiator -> griffith aluminum radiator
dead old wastegate -> tial replacement
massively excessive oil burning turbo -> Vitesse S2 turbo, new AOS rings
collapsed cat pipe -> 3" test pipe
and on and on......
So with all these nice fancy replacement parts available, most near the price of OEM ones, does anyone actually replace broken things with stock parts?

skene that EXCATLLY what i did. But i went with coil overs, rack lines were leaking badly so i replaced the whole system with a manual rack, all the suspension is upgraded beside the control arm because i got ones for a REALLY good deal. Thats usually what i do is replace everything with a better component

i use something breaking or failing as a excuse to spend more money on performance parts
uh yea (insert mom, girlfriend, wife, etc) I need to buy this part since factory replacement is much expensive

Also, you have to figure that if you are planning to upgrade at some point, it doesn't make sense to replace it with stock and then just replace it later with upgrade. And then while you are in there, all the things you had to remove to get to the broken part, you wouldn't want to have to pull them back out to upgrade them later, might as well upgrade all that stuff now while its easy to get too. That's what I tell myself anyway.

OK... speaking in terms of when it breaks, goes bad etc...upgrading to the next best thing. BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER... I'm curious as to the $$ you all are feeding this addiction? I know my habit is adding up quick over the last couple of years and it's not DONE. (951 anonymous - 555-1212)
