nice wheels!
Thanks, Dan! I'm really enjoying them! (Dan sold these to me about a year ago)

Is there any way I can tell the options that came with a 944 turbo (or at least the original color) based on the VIN #?

Thanks
my friend has a charcoal 86 for sale. yes, they did. it was called slate grey...

Unless I'm terribly mistaken, which I could be.

Slate gray and stone gray are actually the same color (LY7U). It's more often called "stone gray" in the factory literature (including the service manuals), but is occasionally translatted from the german as "slate gray".

OMG the Ocean Blue Turbo S is in BUffalo, NY! I was following him home one day to talk to him and see if he was in a 944 group or anything and I have never seen the light blue color before that was on his car, and it was all original. So, if you guys want to see it, it is in Buffalo!

There is a metallic charcoal color that is in between the stone gray and the graphite/satin black. I always thought it was the "slate" gray, but may have another official name. Having owned both a stone gray and a satin blk car, I know I am not confusing this charcoal color with one of the others.

There are indeed some other grays, but they only came standard on the earlier cars or the very late cars. I cracked open my factory manual for the full list. Here goes:

1982/83
Gabun Gray (LY7A)
Meteor Gray Metallic (LY7Z)
Gemini Gray Metallic (LZ7Z)

1984
Gemini Gray Metallic (LZ7Z)
Cermatt Metallic (LY7Y) <-- I'm not sure if this is actually gray, but I'm guessing that it is from the code

1985 and 1986
"Slate" or "Stone" Gray Metallic (LY7U)
Graphite Metallic (LB7V)

1987 - 1989
"Slate" or "Stone" Gray Metallic (LY7U)
Satin Black (LY9Y) <-- Not really gray, but in the same genre

1990-1991
Titan Metallic (LY7P) <-- This looks a lot like LY7U in person. It's perhaps a shade lighter
